You sound like you know what you're talking about so I'll save you a lecture, but dark matter and energy are pretty much just universal syrup; they're not that exciting. They're interesting, and they're weird, but they certainly aren't exciting. To give you a better idea of what I'm saying, the way that we figured out that there is dark matter amounts to, "Hey, Earth should be moving towards the sun a lot faster." "Hey, [b]everything[/b] should be moving a lot faster." "Huh. Must be invisible space goo." "Cool. Let's call it dark matter."
