Faira race doc (Warning: Wall of text) TL;DR: The Faira are a nigh extinct, advanced silicon-based race inhabiting a part of a distant galaxy that travelled into this one only a short time ago and volunteered a ship to help the effort as a gesture of goodwill. They are not part of the Alliance (yet), and can not afford to send any more support than the one ship.

Ship Designation: FFg Raijin, Cygnus-class Ship Registry: FS-2-2-1-3 Ship Class: The Faira system for ship designations is vastly different from that of the Alliance. While it’s native class is a frigate, by alliance standards it more fits the role of ‘pocket battlecruiser’. The idea behind the class is to strip the Destroyer class (Battleship equivalent) and reduce it in size with the intent of keeping the firepower and enhancing speed. The tradeoff is somewhat thinner armor asset and the absence of a fighterbay of any kind. Ship Size: 1000 meters Ship Crew: Commanding officer Executive officer Diplomat 2x Helm 2x11 weapons operator 2x4 engineer 4x escort marine Ship Weapons: Faira prefer plasma based weaponry, as it delivers damage on several levels, from kinetic through thermal to electromagnetic, making them hard to shield form and protect the hull against. 10x 5m multipurpose plasma cannon: These cannons can fire either rapid bursts of small blasts to target small ships, or a high-coherence plasma lance to engage large targets. 1x 50m anticapital plasma beam: A monster of a cannon, this thing can gut a ship equal in size to the Raijin or smaller in under 10 shots. Ship technologies: Shielding - the Faira shielding si state fo the art - a necessity given their shortage of various ores and low capacity of their shipyards. Combining a rotating ion barrier with a strong magnetosphere, it takes a powerful weapon to pierce through. The shields are a bit more power hungry than average, which led the engineers to split them in 6 segments, one for each direction, so power can be allocated to the needed quadrants more efficiently. Armor - Faira armor is simple in design. The hull forms an enclosed monocoque with modules bolted onto it. The Raijin is a later variant of the class, which added plates of additional ablative armor to protect vital areas. Fusion reactor - To keep the logistics simple, weapons, power generation and sublight drives all run on the same fuel, which is any form of gas, most often helium or hydrogen. The fusion plant is a mainstay in the Faira fleet, reliable and proven by the years. It is not as strong as other forms of power generation though, and it is particularly noticeable on the Cygnus class frigates. Plasma drives - Split into four groups of two on separate pylons, the ship is quite over-engined for it’s mass giving it very good acceleration. Coupled with vectored thrust nozzles, this ship can dance on the battlefield if need be. Subspace motivators - The Faira way of FTL transport. The motivators create a 1-dimensional tunnel between point A and point B through which the ship can travel at very high speeds with rather low energy requirements. A serious drawback is that Faira shields do not work in subspace and ships equipped with this technology can follow others into their jump nodes, creating a great weakness, albeit one hard to exploit without proper know-how. EWS, ECS - Early warning system and electronic combat suite are one of the pivotal strengths of Faira ships. Capable of detecting targets at very high ranges and attacking the sensors of other ships, the Faira won quite a few engagements before any shots were even fired. AIs - The hidden strongpoint of the Faira. Most of their ships’ tasks are automated using artificial intelligences based on the species’ own physiology. This combined with the lack of pilots and marines means that a ship of this size can be operated by tiny crew at peak efficiency. Fabricators - To eliminate the need to create large supply depots or logistics ships, all Faira ships are equipped with replicators large enough to produce any spare parts given the raw materials. Docking port - The means of transferring crew and supplies, the docking port also acts as fuel scoop to replenish the ship’s life support system, fuel tanks and weapons’ magazines. Heat capacitors and recuperation unit - This particular ship is equipped with experimental heat sink upgrade which allows it to store excess heat for about 15 minutes and limit its thermal signature significantly. The stored heat is also partially recycled back into power. Strengths and weaknesses: + Shielding: Strong and renewable. If you do not destroy this ship, it will very likely retreat and come back at full strength sooner than you can repair your damage. + Redundancies: All systems have a backup of a backup, and if the computers fail, there is enough crew to operate the basic functions of the ship. + Sustainability: The Raijin is ideal ship for long range solo missions, given its stealth and minimum support requirements. - Heat sinks: All the tech creates a lot of heat that needs to go somewhere. If enough heat sinks are damaged, the ship has to further limit its power generation - Docking port: The only place where the hull is actually drilled through. Hitting there guarantees a critical hit. - Insufficient power generation: The ship does not generate enough power to sustain maximum shield, weapon and engine output, but can only run two at full strength when the other is completely shut down, or operate all of them at less than peak efficiency. - Insufficient point defense: While the cannons are positioned in a way that 100% of firepower can be focused to the front and at least 50% to any direction, there are too few to protect the ship against swarms of strikecraft. It also carries no strikecraft of its own to fill in the blanks. - Weak armor: If somebody finds a way to quickly deplete / punch through the Faira shielding, the armor itself will not hold out for long. - Inability to perform ground/boarding operations: With their low numbers and nomadic lifestyle, the Faira do not have marines present on their ships in any other capacity than diplomatic escort.

Name: Astra Rank: Rear Admiral Overview: Astra is the generation’s genius inventor. She is responsible for major improvements to Faira shielding and FTL technology and one fo their leading military theorists. Also a daughter of the current admiral of the Striker fleet, her star was set to rise. Already the youngest Admiral on record, studies of an ancient derelict led the Faira to an abandoned intergalactic gate. Astra was chosen to captain the first manned ship that made it through. She is a nerd with every fibre of her being, her mind working in the most logical sense. As such, she is rather socially incompetent and may rub people the wrong way.

Name: Libra Rank: Captain Overview: Paternal sister to Astra, their father is the only thing the two of them have in common. Where Astra inherited their father’s book smarts, Libra is a carbon copy of her own mother - a skilled diplomat with nigh unlimited patience. She has accompanied Astra for her whole career, acting as her ‘editor’. The two of them do not compete with each other, but rather compliment themselves and form a well working team. She stuck with Astra on her voyage into the unknown, chosen as the ship’s diplomat.
