That's right. An advanced Harry Potter RP. Move over Casual and/or Free Sections.

Everything's still pretty conceptual, so nothing's set in stone yet. That being said, here's the frame so far.

• The RP takes place in Hogwarts, September of 2015. That's right, nerd! The year James Sirius Potter goes to Hogwarts! That being said, I'd prefer nobody use a canon character, or even relative of canon character -- I normally try to avoid canon as much as possible, because I feel like I didn't read enough Harry Potter as a kid to do J.K. Rowling's characters justice. We'll still have a few canon characters (Professor Longbottom, for example) but they won't be taking the spotlight any time soon.

• The story follows a Ragtag Group Of Friends™ as they make their way through seven years of Hogwarts. If this gets enough interest there might also be subplots for people who want to play professors and the like, but for the most part, it centers on the group. Unless there's an overwhelming wave of interest, applications will likely be for 3-4 students. (Whether or not they're all from the same house is up to the group as a vote.)

• Because there's not much available information about who taught at Hogwarts at the time, we'll be making a lot of professors, if that interests you guys. Classes will still be the standard Hogwarts classes, however.

• I haven't decided on a general plot yet, but I have a few ideas I'm mulling over. There's a possibility we might follow the formula of the books and have one major event/mystery per year, getting increasingly less "zany magic" as it goes on, and more "world-threatening magic"

dude is there even a question? count me in. it's nice to see a hp-style rp where the emphasis isn't on perfectly understanding the books. i'm in love with the idea of the universe, and it's nuances & shit? but, eh. i just haven't ever really particularly been interested in the books. i think it's like a foreign language???? you've gotta start that shit young for it to really hit home.

im up for subplotting with professors. gotta have dark, twisty shit going on behind the scenes-- gotta have obstacles for our Ragtag Band of Children to face, right? What better way to make those than by taking sorts they're supposed to trust with the educations that'll shape the rest of their lives, and totally corrupting it? none. not that i can think of so generally, anyway.

i LOVE kids who start out bright & chipper & wind up hollowed, vacant-eyed warriors. maybe come up with some smaller threat to begin with, like some magical community burning down, but in the background have magic going wonky, or have some Dark Force(tm) starting to make waves-- that'd be the bigger, world-ending-y kind of thing. visible, but only in glances. only thru a vale, or some shit.

That's fine! If something in your CS goes against canon, we can work on it in PMs or something.

Understandable. The plot will either take a super dark turn (Defeating the next Voldemort, stopping an apocalyptic prophecy, another wizarding war, etc.) or just a regular "Our lives are in danger" dark turn. Think Death Eaters and professors being killed and whatnot. Maybe a giant monster or something. In either case, any turning the events do will be dark and things will be in danger.

Whether or not we stay with a small group depends on whether or not people want to play as professors. That being said, if we do get a large group (I'd say 6-7 is the cap in this case), I imagine the professor characters would be involved in subplots that don't affect our main group.

nah but on a more serious note, i like the sound of that, with the larger group's professors having subplots that are separated from the mail group. all kinds of fun little web weaving behind the scenes to be done, there. assuming we have enough people.. there's a point in not wanting to get too caught up in our own webs.

I normally I steer clear of Harry Potter RPs, but if we don't need encyclopedic knowledge, I'm interested.

I'm fine with or without using colors for dialogues - my more pressing concern is that people use proper paragraphing (aka the enter button on your keyboard). Don't bunch things together into a wall of text dump just to try making your posts look beefy but hard for others to understand. Also, refrain from using over-fanciful formatting. Keep in simple and consistent with everyone. :)

1. Yeah, I quite like the idea.

2. I suggest we start off at a higher year with only slight differences in our ages (eg not year 2 and others year 7). This way some of us can have presumed friendships and frenemies too.

I would be really interested in this. I've never seen an Advanced HP Roleplay!

I would really love for the RP to start from the bottom and go up. So, I'm pretty fancy with the idea of 11 year old's going through the years. While most certainly, J.K. Rowling fucked up a little towards the end, at the end of the day, in the beginning of series (wowwowo this sentence) there was this magic about having little kids just beginning to enter the darkness of the big grown up Wizarding world, not really understanding all the dark shit taking place around them, but still persevering.

Of course, it's still up to majority vote, but I do like the idea of starting as a kid.

Obviously, there's lots of interest already, but I would be interested as well, likely in what you originally proposed, i.e. a long term RP following youth through their seven years of education. Besides, it'd be entertaining to roleplay the slightly addled judgements of a kid going through puberty while trying to save the world.

Last question! Is anybody interested in playing as a professor, as well as a kid? If so, lemme know. If not, I'll assume nobody wants to be a middle-aged geezer and center the plot around our group.

re: multicolored text-- I desperately need it. not bright, or anything-- but definitely colored. it helps me sort what my character can hear and know, as well as actually??? keeping the post straight in my head.

otherwise???? i'm down for everyone being from the same house. i'm imagining an army of slytherin children, advancing down the halls-- putting house stereotypes to shame, or whatever.
