I'm not sure if you've ever heard of the manga Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle and the anime Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha...or how about the popular RPG Kingdom Hearts? Most of my inspirations are from TRC and KH with regards to the idea of multiverse: each world has their own set of laws and rules, which will apply to the possible abilities and powers in the respective worlds. For example, in KH's Peter Pan part, Sora and his friends can fly just like Peter Pan and co. after being doused in Tinker Bell's powder - but this doesn't work on any of the other Disney worlds they travel to. As for the intelligent-storage device idea, it's from Lyrical Nanoha - the device can have a built-in AI with limited degree of autonomy that can act as a guide to our characters. The storage part is for our characters to be able to record and process the data required to gain and use the powers/abilities they learned from each world they arrive at. Not sure if you get what I'm trying to say, but yep here's are my thoughts on this multiverse idea?
