They weren't the wealthiest family, but thankfully, they were able to manage for the next fifteen years. Teresa's childhood wasn't really out of the ordinary. She had a few friends, but her frightening personality drove other children away. One of her friends was much older than her, and Teresa would often refer to her as her 'sis' because of their close relationship. Teresa and Eloise would spend a lot of time playing together in the streets, and were rarely seen inside their houses. Once Eloise was old enough, she told Teresa how she wanted to join the Survey Corps after she graduated from the trainees. Astonished by this, Teresa tried to convince her out of it, saying Eloise's smarts would be fitter for the Garrison instead. Replying with a smile, Eloise reassured Teresa that it was just a small idea that came into her head, and that she knew the dangers of joining the Survey Corps. Eloise then left, joining the trainees at twelve. As soon as Teresa was of age, she immediately considered of becoming a trainee, but when both of her parents fell ill, she had to stay and look after them for a while. Years passed and, even though her mother had managed to recover, her father's illness hadn't subsided. After her mother discovered Teresa's passion to become a high ranking Garrison soldier, she decided to let go, telling Teresa that she should follow her dreams and live them out. She explained that she didn't want her daughter to stay trapped in the house forever, and that she should go out fulfil her goal of making it into the Garrison.
