I highly recommend [i]Blackdog[/i], [i]The Leopard[/i], and [i]The Lady[/i]. All written by K.V. Johansen. Read them in the order I've listed. Blackdog is a prequel of sorts. The Leopard and The Lady are two books of a two book volume. 

And as Gowi pointed out above, Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson. Also check out The Stormlight Archive series by him because they're apparently really friggin good and TONS of pages so you'll certainly be kept busy.
