It depends on how you are. For me I'm a bit of a completionist so I'd end up doing it just to get done, because even now I want to do the previous raids even if I don't get anything out of it. Though the story isn't the best to begin with in Destiny, it starts getting better, especially towards House of Wolves because they start having characters talk more, which is just more fun in general.

Ya I've been doing some of the older stuff and really enjoying it even if the loot drops that are worth it are few and far between! Everyone says the real good stuff is only in raids! So I'm really looking for a group to start doing those with.
