Zeke grimaced at the cat. Kymmen spread his wings, and Zeke could practically feel the heat of his glare towards Thomas. [color=f26522]"Eh, down,"[/color] Zeke said, and Kymmen stopped craning his neck, the wings stayed half-folded. [color=f26522]"Shit manners, he's got. But I guess he took after me."[/color] With a small smirk, Zeke reached up to lightly tap Kymmen's beak. 

He had a spell in mind, that ended with some variation of -[i]salmon[/i], but he didn't think Ophelia would take kindly to being its subject. Wincing on her behalf, Zeke didn't harp on the matter of smothering parents any further, but rolled his eyes at her comment. 

A smile tilted edgewise up his cheek nonetheless. [color=f26522]"Nah, quite the opposite really. My spirit's become positively [i]dismal[/i] now that I'm here in this compartment with you. I'm compensating for that with the colour."[/color] The sarcasm was dry and raspy as sandpaper in his voice, but the lopsided grin grew longer as he stretched out one leg to nudge Ophelia's with the laces of his scuffy sneakers. 

She hadn't been wrong about the length however. He flicked a loose scarlet lock out of his eyes. [color=f26522]"My mother was musing about cutting my hair over the summer. I grew it out another inch overnight to remind her of the maddening futility of scissors."[/color] She had sucked in an exasperated breath in the morning when she had seen it - standing up on all ends from a night's sleep - but his father had only guffawed at it over the day's print of the Daily Prophet, and quickly enough she had cracked a smile. But those were details he was unwilling to divulge any further. Zeke sat up straight in his seat, and peered with narrowed eyes at Ophelia. [color=f26522]"Have you gotten any taller over the break, or are you still the size of a doxy?"[/color]
