I've read three books on what to do and not do during a zombie apocalypse, including but not limited to, information about the best kind of weapons, how to travel, clothing do's and do not's, etc. By the way, semiautomatic rifles would be best for a zombie apocalypse, if they keep going until they're completely disabled, or the brains are dead. Automatics encourage unleashing hell, and doing relatively nothing- while handguns require you to be at close range, which is scary and will force you to be even closer because you'll probably miss. Flamethrowers are crap. They'll keep walking until they have no muscle or they go out. Acids and stuff are just generally no-no. Axes, hatchets? Bad idea. Baseball bats, the blunt side of an axe, sledgehammers? Good idea. Swords and blades can get stuck- good old fashioned whackers are less likely to. Something simple would be required, though, easy to clean, easy to carry, easy to keep in fairly good shape.
