It was a dance and that's all Dorian would allow it to be. 
The day was a special occasion which caused him to act out of character as he had but when the dance was over his gift to Sophia was over.

Some time later Dorian is walking back down the steps, ducking behind the bar he reappears with a new pitcher of ale in each hand and takes them to Clays table offering them to all partaking in [CLAYS QUEST]
