So I just finished watching Steins;Gate and I can fully recommend that one too. (Notice a few others mention it) Something to note is that the story does start a bit slow for the first 9ish episodes as it's introducing and setting up the story, but then it hits into overdrive without warning and really hooks you in. So [@Yin], add it to your list of things to see. ;)
Going into overdrive is the light way of putting. The way things kicked off had my head spinning. As for my personal recommendation [@Yin], I offer you Ergo Proxy (even though I think someone here has mentioned it in a list before). Set in a sci-fi/cyberpunk post-apocalyptic future, it follows the events after an ecological disaster on earth forcing humanity to leave earth. By that I mean the events happening on earth. At no point do they focus on the people that have left earth. At first it's a bit hard to follow in my opinion. But mid through and near the end you get these 'Aha!' moments and stuff starts making sense. Another one I enjoyed that I don't think has been mentioned here is Guilty Crown.
