“Yeah.” Victoria nodded. “Yeah, the classrooms sound like a good idea.” She cleared her throat and slowly headed back toward the back entrance door. She glanced at the shelves of books, noting their call numbers. She looked up, then startled back as the door they had come through opened only a couple feet in front of her. Before she could think to look away, the woman they had seen in the hall looked over, her gaze meeting Victoria’s. Victoria held her breath, then looked down as the girl offered a quick, friendly wave. She suppressed a sigh of relief; that girl, at least, was human, as far as she could tell. Apparently oblivious to Victoria’s behavior, the woman hurried toward the circulation desk as Victoria went to the door, holding it open for Alex. “After you.” She gestured for Alex to exit first.
