Conversely, when Hekate was in the prime of her worship, she was noted for her beauty and luminescence. Her straight locks were as black as the darkest time of night with stark crimson poppies intertwined with strands. The ebony tresses swing around her hips, seemingly silky and thick. She possesses no bangs and has a middle part, her hair falls like curtains on either side of her central face. Around her main head is a silver circlet with the chains embedded with tiny rubies that shimmer in the light, in the middle of her forehead is an oval, smooth blood diamond the size of a thumb with curling silver metal stemming away from the ruby. The silver designs are attached to a second chain that hangs down to the start of the bridge of her nose, decorated heavily with small rubies and diamonds. On both sides of the blood diamond are ruby-encrusted silver moons that face away, and are attached to the chain that swoops around her head and meets in the back. To add to her ethereal beauty, Hekate has pale skin that seems to shimmer in the moonlight and it stretches over a narrow, oval face with a sharp jaw and flat chin. Her nose is straight and long, the typical Greek statue nose, and her lips are downturned with rich ridges and a pointed cupid’s bow. Her round eyes are black and dull and seem to radiate an apathy that put off others. However, the weirdest part of her appearance is undoubtedly the two extra heads that are placed to form a triangular form between the three. The head on the left had the white scales of a snake donning her cheeks and forehead as well as slitted eyes and a forked tongue. The head on the right was akin to a dog with large brown eyes and a black tinted nose and lips, as well as elongated canine teeth and a harsh, prominent brow. No jewelry is placed on these two heads and do not talk, but are noted to see everything. Hekate typically wears a short white chiton with a peplos and himation placed over it paired with simple hunting boots. Hekate does not possess any notable weapons except for a willow staff with the head of a dog carved onto the top; she usually keeps it strapped to her back. She is often seen carrying around a lit torch with her, even during the daylight.
Earthly Appearance:
As a human, Hekate had her hair parted to the right and the left side completely shaved off, with only a little bit of stubble left. Instead of the silken and sleekness of her godly tresses, Hekate’s hair is seen as unkempt with a slight amount of grease and tangles. Long side-swept bangs have been added, curving around her temple and rejoining her hair and what was once ebony is now a deep died maroon color. She has a diamond-shaped head with a strong jaw and a slightly-pointed chin. Her eyes are small and a light blue color and a dabble of brown by the pupil. They are almond shaped and shrewd-looking, giving her a sly appearance like a snake. Her nose is pert and pointed, but her nostrils are rather wide, making her nose look slightly disproportionate to the rest of her face. Hekate has thin, twisted lips, with the right side higher up than the left, and her cupid’s bow is narrow and undefined. While she is still pale compared to others, she is certainly more tan than she was before with a light pink-peach coloration that makes her look awkward when wearing yellow or other light colors. Her skin has been inked with tattoos, as well: on her left arm is a viper twisting around until the head ends at her shoulder, rearing back to bite; on her right shoulder is a rabid dog, frothing at the mouth; on her right thigh is a horned owl perched on a branch and a simple key hanging from its talons; a large willow tree starts at the bottom of her back and leans towards the left, following the outline of the edge of her back, before the trunk stops at the top of her back and the branches begin to expand towards the right of her body; a bed of poppies, keys, and black stars start at the top of her hip on her side and extend down to the outside of her left thigh. Hekate is prone to wearing ripped jeans, boots and heels, ripped shirts, and leather jackets. She tends toward the “punk” side of clothing and usually dons smoky eye makeup with nude lipstick. Both ears are studded with three silver earrings, her bellybutton is pierced, and she has a nose stud.
Personality:
The Distant One. Many don’t see anything good with Hekate; she is morally loose, ruthless, and apathetic. Hekate’s sense of morality is skewered; while she understands what is wrong and what is right, she takes it upon herself to do the wrong thing in order to punish those who did wrong as well. Ruthless in this sense, she has been known to butcher murderers and rapists, sees death as the only justifiable punishment, and is undeniably cruel. She is emotionally distant, never batting an eye at people’s suffering, especially if she believes if they deserve it, and she never seems to be angry or sad or happy or surprised. Just apathetic, stone-faced, ready. This apathy she radiates causes fear amongst people; they see it as a preparedness to do anything to justify her needs. Even when she was worshipped, it was done so through fear as the Greeks were terrified that they would be punished if they did not offer her anything. Despite her punishment of wrongdoers, it has been noted that she has done evil as well. Matter of fact, most see Hekate as a source of evil and encourages it through her witchcraft. Through her time, she has cursed women for no reason and murdered men for pleasure. However, there is more to the infernal goddess that many do not see. In reality, Hekate is a woman of knowledge. As a witch, she is in tune with the balance of good and evil and understands that it is her duty to keep it balanced. She understands that good and evil must both exist for the world to keep on spinning and so she maintains this balance by instigating evil as well as diminishing it. What most do not understand is that, even though her face is carved of stone, she possesses a soft heart. Hekate is protective of the weak – or perceived weak - and misunderstood as she was once seen as a weak and is still misunderstood. She often stands guard over women at night, in order to protect them from harm, and has a deep maternal instinct that causes her to watch over newborns as well. Her role as a balance has taken its toll and Hekate often finds herself in dark thoughts and wallowing, leading to midnight walks and seclusion. Hekate is deeply independent and values her solitude, often going to lengths to avoid others. She finds reliance and dependence on others as feeble and never asks for help or advice. When asked, she usually never offers her help unless it is entirely necessary and involves her deep-set loyalty to the world. Because of her preference for solitude, she is not the friendliest person and instead is full of biting remarks and a rough bluntness that puts people off. Hekate owes loyalty to no one except for the greater good of mankind and will sacrifice anyone she has to in order to protect Earth, even herself. Hekate generally favors humans over deities and is much more lenient of their presence than a fellow god. She sees her fellow pantheon as too indulgent and hedonistic.
Mortal Skills/Abilities:
Despite her powers being taken away, she still retains knowledge of several herbs and their uses. She put this to use by pursuing medical knowledge, both human and veterinary. She is an avid gardener and picked up skills in flower arranging, once being a botanist. An art that she has picked up is calligraphy and she has become quite good at it. Even as a mortal, people still seem to find her unnerving and tend to avoid her.
Immortal Skills/powers/abilities:
Hekate is, overall, the goddess of witchcraft and is proficient in making potions and casting spells, though she seems to favor curses. She was also able to turn invisible; when invisible, only dogs could see her. Hekate is able to manipulate another’s dream and many times she would send a human a dream in order to guide them.
Miscellaneous:
Has picked up several calming hobbies:
-Bonsai tree cutting -Art collecting -Calligraphy -Flower Arranging -Chess
She is also very close to Persephone and Hades Her dog, Hekabe, was once a queen that Hekate transformed into a dog to prevent her suicide
History:
After the dispersion of the Greek pantheon, Hekate found it easy to settle with mankind, even relieving. At first, she didn’t know what she wanted to do and roamed the world by herself for a decade before she settled. She refused contact from her godly ex-colleagues, even from Persephone and Hades, and instead focused on rebuilding a new life for herself. However, she did keep her she-dog familiar, Hekabe. She embraced a life without the Greek pantheon and forced herself to start a social life amongst humans. Over the years, she met several acquaintances before deciding that the social butterfly life was not for her. Around World War I, Hekate lived in England under the name of Rina Abney. There, she met a man by the name of Christian Bristow. He was handsome and, though she had her reservations at first, Hekate fell head over heels for him. It was the first time, surprisingly, that Hekate had ever been in love and, perhaps, that is why she never saw the signs. After two years of dating, though there was a bit of a hiatus when Christian went to war, Hekate was prepared to marry him, even though she knew she would outlive him. Despite knowing it was considered weird and untraditional, Hekate had bought a ring and was going to propose to him: she, after all, hated traditions. And yet, she knew she should not have been so optimistic. She should have expected to walk in on him and another woman, she should have noticed that Lily wasn’t “just a friend,” but she had let herself fall. Hekate never felt so enraged before in her many years of life. It was only natural that she would kill the bastard and his whore. After that incident, Hekate made it a point to close out everyone in her life even more than before. In order to secure her seclusion, Hekate moved next to a graveyard near London. Amongst some of her jobs, she was a stripper, a drug dealer, a mortician, a graveyard keeper, a regular doctor (which only lasted three months), and a nurse (which lasted several years). She started medical school once more, though she had done it multiple times already, and secured a job in the morgue at a police department. She had many jobs over the years, but being a Medical Examiner seemed to stick with her. When the call for her to gather with her fellow gods came, Hekate nearly lost control out of exasperation and she had half a mind to ignore it, but in the end, she didn’t.
