Interested!

Considering a ton of species died, are there only certain kinds of pokemon left on the Earth? I should also mention I'm not all that caught up with the fandom (lack of money means no 3DS ) so I haven't played any of the recent games -- but that doesn't mean I can't look up pokemon, or info about the different regions. That said, I'm really looking forward to this. c:
