Name: Grane Blauer Age: 25 Gender: Male Race: Snake Faunus Affiliation: White Fang
Desolation is a pair of bladed tonfas, with an unorthodox appearance which was intended to strike fear into the enemy. Desolation is imbued with large amounts of red dust, which essentially adds heat energy to the blade, containing it in a field so that the user will not burn themselves in the process. It allows the blades to cut through material usually considered to be too dense for a blade to be able to cut through. The heat can obviously also burn those cut by it or even come into extremely close proximity to it.
Semblance: Grane’s semblance is neither fancy nor is it flamboyant. Grane can simply increase the rate at which his brain processes speed, in small bursts, increasing his reaction tenfold. He cannot do this several times in a row, as the strain on his body would start becoming permanent, and even if he did not care about systematic organ failure, the bursts start getting shorter and shorter, until he would be completely unable to continue doing so. Personality: In public appearance, Grane might seem like a cold, rational, loyal soldier. He never rejects an order. However, in private, he is a very wry, social person. While Grane still has a sense of morality, he feels a show of kindness or generosity in public is a wasted gesture, as while everyone may compliment you, in the end, they will almost never follow in example. Years in the war have softened his racist tendencies. Grane tries to be impartial, but he still finds it hard to forgive the humans, despite the fact he knows they are acting out just like the Faunus are. He has lost many friends to the human kingdoms, but he reminds himself that he has also taken many humans’ family and friends throughout his military career. Appearance: Grane for all intents and purposes, looks the same as his counterpart in our “canon” timeline. History: Grane was taken from his parents when he was a mere baby, though he doesn’t remember them at all, nor does he feel much sorrow being taken away from them. His parents had “given” him away for “a greater cause”, according to his superiors in the White Fang. His cynical self would probably say Baby Grane was kidnapped rather than “given away”, but alas, his training as a soldier in the White Fang began as soon as he could walk and talk. Grane saw the White Fang as heroes fighting for Faunus independence, and against human injustice. Like Superm- Faunus, an ideal he could only hope to live up to. Grane’s patriotism was almost suffocating to those in his platoon, but they all saw him as a little brother and looked out for him, becoming his surrogate family. Grane did not usually fight directly against the enemy, but he participated in sabotage operations, blowing up factories and convoys. Years later, Grane soon became the captain of a platoon of his own in the White Fang, and the Second Faunus War soon broke out over violent suppression of the Faunus populations during Faunus protests. Grane saw this as an atrocity and proof that the Faunus needed their own kingdom. Grane participated in many successful operations, and soon became the go-to unit for “impossible” missions. He had immense pride for his platoon- If they fought this hard, a Faunus Kingdom would soon be more than a daydream. But then the fateful order came. Grane was ordered to clear out a Vale Military Outpost. It seemed strange they would order a special forces unit to take on something so small, but Grane wasn’t one to dwell on words. He was a man of action. What little resistance there was dissolved within minutes under sustained attack. Embarking deeper into the outpost, he found it was a refugee camp, full of mostly human families, with some Faunus here and there, probably displaced from the constant fighting. Grane asked his superiors over scroll where he should move the refugees. He got a reply in mere moments. “Kill them. It’ll show these poor bastards that their "mighty" human kingdoms cannot protect them now.” Even when Grane notified his superior that there were Faunus here as well, he was chastised for questioning orders. His superior “informed him” that those faunus signed their own death sentences when they decided to go to the humans for help. Grane told his platoon the orders calmly and unemotionally. He had thought that his platoon would simply not follow the obviously horrendous order. How wrong he was. Grane’s bloodthirsty platoon, immensely loyal and itching for blood, massacred the entire refugee population, leaving no one alive. Grane merely watched in horror, but kept his composure and informed his superiors that the deed was done. Something snapped in Grane that day. He no longer had his nationalistic fervor, and while Grane still was highly successful, he felt empty. Grane no longer ate with his men, and seemed to prefer being alone than being around his platoon mates. Grane soon came to realize that both human and faunus were at fault for the loss of innocent life. While the faunus protests that sparked the war were for faunus rights, they were violent in nature, and were pretty much violent riots that soon became more about sentiments against injustices that happened years ago. The humans responded with even more violence and suppression instead of trying to disperse the violent crowds through nonviolent means. One thing leads to another. It now felt strange to hear about human injustice, their slaughter of faunus when Grane knew the Faunus had their own sins to answer for. But Grane was a soldier, a lowly captain. Who would listen to him, especially when he had ordered a massacre? No, Instead speaking out, or disobeying, Grane now ordered his men to kill prisoners and “humans and their sympathizers.” as White Fang doctrine dictated. Eventually both Faunus and Humans would see the White Fang as murderers, cowards. They would unite against a common foe, and hopefully this union would convince the two sides that they wanted the same thing- Peace. Yes, the innocent would probably be ignored and trampled over in the time being, but Faunus and Human would come to their senses, hopefully. While Grane has never participated in the murder of civilians or prisoners of war, Grane knows he has his own sin. He is a good man who simply does nothing, in the face of evil.
