I do suggest writing one P.O.V when both characters are in the immediate vicinity of one another. Dedicate a paragraph to each internal and external actions and switch off between the two. For example:

He couldn't help himself, he just had to know what she was going to wear! "Hey, um, Jane..." Jack stealthy approached his would-be prom date from behind and tapped her on the shoulder, taking the moment to indulge his sense of smell and breath in a waft of Jane's coconut-scented shampoo. ".. Hey, so, umm.. You are going to prom, right?" Jack asked nonchalantly once Jane had turned to face him. ".. I was wondering if.. maybe.. You know..." This was it, it was time to ask! ".. If you'd like to go with me or not... To the Prom that is!" Almost a perfect delivery, but Jack already made the mental note to kick himself for stuttering on that last bit.

Jane turned to hear a nasally voice call out to her from behind, right before feeling a shaky finger tap across her shoulder. [i]Oh no... please don't tell me...[/i] Jane already had her suspicions about who it was before she even caught sight of him. Part of Jane just wanted to run away, but she wouldn't be mean and would never run away.. no matter how desperate some might become. Jane turned, a friendly smile disguising her true feelings, and waved at Jack. "Hi Jack!" Jane had just managed to respond before Jack flew off with his true motive behind disturbing Jane's studies. [i]...Again? This is the third time this week! Why won't he just leave me alone![/i] Jane rolled her eyes, which seemed to have gone unnoticed by Jack, before responding. "I'm sorry, Jack, but someone already asked me. Thanks anyway!" With that Jane quickly turned in her seat before Jack could follow up on her response.[/quote]
