Frank's father, Filippo, had immigrated to Brooklyn from Italy at the end of World War 2. Since then, the Martello family has owned a small bar in downtown Brooklyn, their apartment above it. It was never a glamorous life, but the children got everything they needed. It was Frank's intention to one day pass the bar over to one of his children, but no amount of persuasion could convince them, as they all had their individual dreams, which he respected. Luke had always had the mentality of a soldier. He was organised, direct and, for the most part, fearless. Before he'd even left middle school he already had his mind set on serving the US Army, which was what he did as soon as he was of age. Over the course of the years, Luke served tours in both Afghanistan and Iraq, being stationed in Pennsylvania when not on tour. It was here he met Lindsay, a school teacher from Allentown. The two began dating before Luke proposed. She accepted. It was a month away from the wedding when everything happened. Luke was called out with the rest of the boys from his base to fight off the threat in Philadelphia. He knew it was bad if they were calling the military in, particularly in such number. It didn't last too long before they were completely fucked. His squad got wiped out, and reluctantly, not one to turn away from duty, Luke went in search for Lindsay. He found her dead. Devastated by the loss of his fiancée, Luke left the city and returned to the army base to find it completely abandoned. He guided survivors from Philadelphia over to the base and set up a refugee camp. As the months passed, more arrived. They had grown to see Luke as their leader. They trusted him. He protected them, and looked after them. It was a stable community. But Luke's motivation to lead waned with every passing day, as the only thing keeping him going was the hope that his family would find him. And they did. Well, Isaac, his youngest brother, did.
Personality:
Luke's a good guy. He's always wanted to help people. That's why he joined the army. That's why he guided refugees to the army base. He isn't purely good though. Nobody is anymore. He's had to kill. But, of course, he was a soldier, so he was already good at that. He's a leader, someone who can look after others and rally them. But he, like everyone else, is struggling. He lost his fiancée, and half of his family is dead. He's volatile. Most of the time, he's reliable, but he can be set off pretty easily.
Appearance:
Luke is 6'2 and has a strong frame. He has dark brown hair and a distinct beard. His skin is tan and his eyes are grey. He is a very imposing character and often uses his appearance as an advantage against enemies. He usually wears very practical clothing that allows him to deal with the matter at hand.
Strengths:

Possesses great leadership skills. Knows how to rally people and make important decisions.
Combat ready. He is a trained soldier and is physically strong. One of the primary protectors of the group.
Able to kill people. He doesn't enjoy it, but, being a soldier, he's prepared to do it.

Weaknesses

He has morals. He won't hurt women or children. He will always put himself last. You can't always survive like that in a world like this.
He is crippled with depression from losing his fiancée and often turns to drink when he's alone. This renders him useless.
He's never had to deal with the outside world. He was lucky enough to find the base when he did. Yes, he's gone out on runs, and yes, he's had to kill, but he doesn't know what it's like out there. Not truly.
Stubborn. If he sets his focus on it, he will do it. No matter the cost. Thankfully, there hasn't been anything very costly yet.

Former Occupation:
US Soldier.
Family:

Frank Martello. 55.
