I don't mean to sound defensive, but this goes both ways sometimes. Active players inspire an active GM; an active GM inspires active players. It's a symbiosis between the two that is often overlooked, in my opinion. People often assume that the Game Master/Leader/Teacher should do everything, but the players/followers/students have an equally important task in that endeavor. I know that I can get discouraged if my players don't say anything, don't talk to each other, or just sits there waiting for me to keep everyone entertained. So, what you are describing could be a reaction to that. Now, I don't know the context, and maybe it's just the GM, but what I've mentioned here is fully possible.
Oh this is so true. I gm a game and I often find myself with half of my motivation sapped cause only myself and 1-3 others post semi-regularly. The rest of the 5+ other players are either just too busy with their lives outside of the guild or just simply aren't intersted in posting, which, as you said, Prisk, is a two-way street when it comes to GMs and how often they post(or rather, what they do in their posts). Like, sure GMs have a responsibility to keep things moving along and progressing the story..that is, to say, if it's a plot-driven RP. If it's a character-driven story, then it's the other way around. The players have the responsibility to keep the story going through character interactions and relationships. If not, then the game is surely to die not long after it started and/or after it entered a rapid decrease in posting frequency.
