The police officer in the passenger seat shifted nervously. He was a rookie and it showed. He'd clearly never dealt with people like Haven before. His partner looked at him from the drivers seat and an amused smirk crossed his face. "Relax Carrington, she's not lethal. Nah, she's a healer" He spit the word as if it was a joke. His eyes met hers in the rear view mirror. "Aren't ya kid?" Haven wasn't sure if he was asking if she was dangerous or if she was a healer but either way, rolled her eyes and went back to looking out the window. She clutched the worn denim backpack in her lap a little tighter. She was nervous as hell but there was no way she was letting these men know that. Predators could smell a nervous prey a mile away. She didn't know if these men were...predatory...but she wasn't going to chance it. Bad stuff happened before and could happen again. The patrol car pulled up to the entrance of the orphanage. The officer in the driver's seat got out of the car, made his way around the back and opened Haven's door. "Here ya are, sweetheart. They know you're coming so you just gotta knock." Haven stepped out, a twitch of a smile threatened her face when she realized Officer Scaredy-Cat stayed in the car. She slung the bag on her right shoulder and stepped to the door. The officers left before she even lifted her hand to knock. Well, thanks for the ride guys, she thought. She was clearly on her own now. Here goes nothing. She lifted her clenched fist and pounded on the door.
