Two Garm Pattern Service Bolt Pistols - A large and intimidating weapon often favored by Commissars to “encourage” their troops to fight, the Garm Pattern is otherwise much like regular bolt pistols. Essentially a smaller handheld Bolter, the Bolt Pistol is still a devastating weapon when used correctly. Lilith’s pair come straight from Mars, though just how legitimately they were acquired is a matter of ambiguity. Like all her equipment, these weapons are extensively modified by her, and thanks to her cybernetic capabilities can be wielded simultaneously. The basic models are good for both using as an extra set of arms while working or ripping an enemy in half. Not as huge as most mechadendrites used by the Mechanicum, they also weigh considerably less. A Small Workshop’s Worth of Tools - Self Explanatory. Strapped down tightly to avoid making any noise. Extensive Cybernetic Augmentation - Lilith’s cybernetic augmentation, while not as pervasive as some of the Mechanicus is far more than most anybody else in the Imperium will be able to afford or want to go through regardless. All four limbs and much of her skeletal system have been replaced as well as her heart, lungs, liver, adrenal glands, spleen, pancreas, kidneys; her skull is completely replaced and the material is visible in some places around her eye sockets and temples; her eyes too have been replaced but still resemble normal eyes; her spine, while still mostly organic, is heavily reinforced to cope with the large increase in weight as well as to resist damage far better than an unaltered spine; most of her torso is, in terms of exterior appearance, unaltered. Lilith's breath, despite being filtered through a mask, still managed to come in anxiety-ridden, terrified gasps as she awaited the drop. She was surrounded by unfamiliar faces - the only Mechanicus, let alone another Enginseer, in the entire group. Nobody to associate with anything familiar, just black power armor and grim helmets as the group of Sisters she had been assigned to readied themselves. The interior of the vehicle was cramped and uncomfortable, and it gave her no comfort to think that she was trapped inside a small metal blob that could easily be blasted out of the sky. She had no idea if the Sororitas' power armor would allow them to survive a fall, though at this distance she doubted anything could, but a smaller one perhaps. Nobody had ever permitted her access to power armor before. Despite herself she was somewhat excited to get the chance to work on some, even if it would be with bolts and melta fire screaming overhead. She checked her own weaponry, a dual pair of Garm Pattern bolt pistols that she'd lovingly modified until they were almost unrecognizable as such. Some might call it heresy, others -including herself- would call it innovation. That was one of the reasons she'd been kicked off of Mars, the Mechanicus wasn't too friendly with anyone who, in addition to heretical notions of fiddling with sacred technology, also wasn't keen to give themself completely over to the Omnissiah. Heresy was an interesting notion in and of itself. They touched down she joined the rush amid shoutings of, "Go go go!" Rushing from the vehicle onto what seemed like a dream. A horrible, horrible dream. She'd seen old war pictures of blasted rubble, but never actually been among it. She stood to the side as Sister charged through the rubble, just staring. Not ten meters from her lay a cluster of rotting corpses in various states of disembowlement, their crumpled figures arrayed in intricate caricatures of agony. Most of their faces were unrecognizable as such, for which she was thankful. Buildings that had evidently once been tall, proud, and magnificent were but shattered piles of rock, rubble, and more corpses - those that stood were pockmarked with blast craters. Lilith's jaw hung open, or as open as it could in the mask, at the devastation before her. As the last of the Sisters rushed from the drop pod she started from her daze and sprinted after them, readying her own pistols for anything hostile. While she wasn't technically there to join the frontline and fight -that was for the Sisters to do, in theory- she had no intention of running around unarmed. She realized, as the Sisters began to outpace her, that she should've moved sooner, and began to pump her legs even harder to keep up with the power armored women in front of her. Nothing shot at them. It was oddly peaceful. Far too peaceful to last, but for the moment, the ash covering everything gave it an oddly serene appearance, in contrast with the horrific nightmare of war that lay directly underneath. She tripped on a corpse buried in the ash, freshly turned into a putrescent muck barely held together by bloated skin. She went sprawling in the ash just as they reached the center of the city. Looking up, she felt an urge to vomit as she realized the source of the ash, despite no longer having organs that would easily permit that. She had wondered where the population of the city was, or at least why there seemed to be so few civilian bodies - plenty of dead Imperial Guards, but no average people. The answer lay before her. The sickening, horrible, truly atrocious answer. She almost dropped her weapons as she stared, vision tunneling as she saw where the populace was. Burning. They had burned the bodies. A screech from behind tore her attention away from the macabre scene as something human... but not, stumbled from behind a ruined archway. Its empty eyes scanned the area, and it stood still, before locking right on to her as it shamblecharged at her. Wrenching her foot out of the corpse of the guardsman, she pulled one of her pistols up, delivering two frantic shots to the chest of... whatever it was. A discordant symphony of screeches, howls, and other sounds that sent a chill down the spine of all present rose up from the city as more of them heard the gunshots and began to swarm towards the source. The fighting was pitched and fierce, and more than once Lilith wished only to return to Mars as she fired shot after shot into the abominations' faces. Their numbers seemed endless as they charged, wave after wave falling to withering volleys of bolts and flame, but for every one that fell, five seemed to take its place. Her own ammunition was not infinite, and far less than it would've been had she actually been expecting to fight in pitched battle such as this, and soon she was simply taking swings at them with the retractable claws in her cybernetics. However, no amount of ferocity was enough to counteract thirty howling ghouls and she was overwhelmed, pinned under the rush of them. She knew she was going to die. They were biting at her, stabbing, it was all she could do to keep them off her face as the crush of bodies threatened to smother her - until suddenly a burst of Bolter fire cleared them from her, and the apocalyptic sky of Amethyn was suddenly visible. One of the Sororitas, apparently her saviour, extended a hand that she gladly took. She panted as she wiped blood from her face, "Wh-who are you?" The Sister gave a simple answer of, "Aviza." before returning to shooting. Lilith looked around for something to use, she wouldn't be of much use waiting for a weapon to fix right now, and her pistols were empty. A nearby Sister fell as a bolt slammed home straight into her helmet. Wincing even as she ran over, she grabbed the heavy bolter from her power armored hands and as much of the linked ammunition as she could fit over her own less than power armored form. The weapon was enormous and clunky, but she knew all too well what kind of havoc it could wreak. A cluster of the shambling corpses caught her eye and she unleashed hell in their general direction, watching in glee as various body parts simply ceased to exist and the entire group was cut down under the hail of bolts. __________ Days passed. Days marked only by blood. She did get to work on power armor, but at this point, given the choice between repairing Terminator armor or being safe, she would've happily thrown the Terminator armor straight into the Eye of Chaos. She'd met Aviza again, and discovered that she worked rather well with the Sister. They sent many Chaos worshippers to their gods together, but like many bonds forged in battle, something comes along to break them. This something in the form of Chaos Space Marines. Lilith had no idea what had happened to Aviza, and with the 41 Millenium being what it is, she didn't want to know. She did manage to bring down two of them before being knocked unconscious. Waking up a few hours later, miraculously without serious injury, she could find no trace of Aviza. Making her way back to her detachment of Sororitas, she found them severely depleted, and all were shocked to see her alive. Days passed without a single whisper of mention about Aviza or any of the Sororitas she had come to know and not seen on her way back. Chaos forces had incurred a high bodycount both on their own side and on the forces of the Imperium. The chances of Aviza being just another number in those statistics were depressingly high. She had come to know her surprisingly well, and over the next couple of days retreated into a personal shell as she stripped away unnecessary material from the heavy bolter. The monotony was broken when she received a message requesting her assistance. To her surprise and delight, Aviza was alive and had personally recommended a certain Enginseer to assist with... whatever she was being called to assist in. When she arrived, the instructions and in theory the operation were simple. Reach the stronghold, desecrated by Chaos as it was, alive, and rewire the security IFF to designate the Chaos forces within as hostile targets and let those clean house for them, gather the data contained within the Stronghold, and then demolish it in its entirety, probably with lots of fire knowing how the Sororitas operated. En route, the transport was intercepted by Chaos forces and they were forced to make an emergency crash landing in the middle of territory filled with bomb craters, corpses, angry Chaos forces, and precious little in the way of something friendly. They were on them in seemingly moments, it seemed to Lilith that she had only barely managed to flick off the safety of her heavy bolter and check that a round was chambered before the forces of Chaos were upon them in seemingly hopeless numbers. She noticed something out of the corner of her eye however, and managed to assist the crew in readying the ship's onboard weaponry to eliminate the assault without a single loss on their own side. Some wounded obviously, one of them in fact, being Aviza. Despite the Sororitas being the reason she'd been assigned to this mission, she hadn't actually been able to speak with her up until that point. Lilith was an enginseer, not a medic, but from what she could see the wound was not a life threatening one. The armor was bloodstained, and Aviza was clearly not enjoying the situation, but it wasn't something that would prevent the completion of the mission by any means. After a small break to tend to the wounded, the strike force set to motion once more, somewhat more battered than prior but in no way shape or form dissuaded. The forces of Chaos were thick around the stronghold, with a plethora of Chaos Space Marines guarding the entrance. Every member of the team knew the fight would be long, hard, and gruesome, but every member of the team kept moving nonetheless. While Lilith did not bear the brunt of the fighting, she was not completely inactive either, managing to take down at least one of the marines before the Sisters had cleaned the area out. And then came the part Lilith was along on the ride for, hacking into the security via an exterior panel. Not too long afterwards, automatic gunfire resounded from within accompanied by screaming and yelling. Naught but a few minutes passed before all that came from the stronghold was silence. They moved in, several Sisters actually complimenting Lilith on her handiwork as they passed by. The forces of Chaos were certainly not in a very orderly state as the group walked through the building. Chaos had stored much more than... whatever it was that Chaos stored in buildings. They had several warheads and the targeting data for several sites they intended to wipe off the map with them. Lilith pulled out every shred of relevant information the computers held as she methodically went through them. She would never know how many countless millions were saved by finding the cache, but she was sure it wasn't a small number. Aviza and Lilith went their separate ways again, though at least this time they weren't separated by an angry chaos marine. Lilith recieved the news of the victory over Chaos forces on the planet as she lay fully ensconced in the engine compartment of a Leman Russ Punisher, preparing the tank to go out again and unleash its hellish payload on anything that looked even slightly Chaotic. She wasn't given to reacting to things the way most people did, as she was largely mechanical, but even she felt faint as she realized that for now at least, it was over.
Time with Inquisitor: None 40K Knowledge Question: -What are the Emperor's origins? Early in Earth’s history, the shamans realized that when they died their souls were being preyed upon by the demons of the Warp, and they wouldn’t be able to guide humanity spiritually if they’d been eaten. So they all gathered together and committed mass suicide, their combined power was too much for the demons, and they were reborn together (or however that works, I’m still fuzzy) as the Emprah.
