Vor Shinse, now in Old Man's Corner, was behind cover for the second time in less than a week, but at least now she wasn't hauling around as much junk as she had been last time. She'd fortunately had the time and the caps to mod out her laser pistol the way she'd wanted and had even stocked up on ammo, armor and supplies, leaving her with a few hundred caps to her name, but at that moment it was worth it. Moving from cover to cover she needed all the ammunition and protection she could find. As she hurtled through the open rear doorway of a crumbling clothing store, she skidded to a dead stop. Facing away from her was a fully armored Enclave soldier wearing X-01 power armor and wielding a minigun, surveying the battlefield and letting out occasional bursts of fire at fleeing targets. By some miracle, they hadn't heard Vor Shinse as she ran into the building, her footsteps likely drowned out by the minigun fire. The soldier seemed heavily dug in to their position, shielded by armor and brick with several ammunition boxes behind them should they need to reload. Vor Shinse began to back out slowly until she noticed the contents of one of the nearby crates. Two fusion cores. And beside it, what looked like a small box of fragmentation greandes. Looking around the store, Vor Shinse took stock of her surroundings. Whatever it had sold before the war had long since been looted, but it seemed like it had been outfitted as a sort of trading emporium. Scattered around her were hairbrushes, circuit boards, brooms and, to her excitement, duct tape. Hugging the wall, Vor Shinse first made her way to the roll of tape, placing it in one of the pouches on her waist before moving slowly towards the grenades. She made sure to move when the soldier fired and to stay directly behind them, out of their line of sight until she reached the crates. The first thing she grabbed was three frag grenades, pocketing two and holding on to the other. Next she pocketed the two fusion cores before finally taking the duct tape and wrapping it partially in tape, leaving two pieces ready to be stuck to a surface while holding the grenade in place. Rising slowly, Vor Shinse found herself at face height with the fusion core in the back of the soldiers X-01 power armor. Gently and carefully, she stuck the grenade to the soldiers back, the grenade covering the yellow fusion core, before pulling the pin. And that was when her luck ran out. She didn't know what had alerted the Enclave soldier, either the sound of the pin being pulled, the force needed to pull it or if she's simply been caught in the soldiers peripheral vision, but the spun around to face her at that moment, knocking her back with the minigun. Vor Shinse was scrambling to her feet and running for the doorway just as the minigun began to cycle, preparing to fire. The doorway was less than ten feet away, but at that moment nothing could have been farther away. Sprinting through the door, the first bullets began to erupt from the gun, slamming into the wall beside her as she immediately dove to her right, behind a wall. A moment later, there was an earth-shattering explosion, sending brick and concrete flying around her. The grenade had detonated, and with it, the fusion core. Laying on the ground, panting, Vor Shinse felt a slight queasiness as well as a light tingling all over her body. Radiation. Reflexively she shot up to her feet, pushing through the shock and relying on her adrenaline to help her move, she carried herself to the nearby shell of a car, far enough for the sensation to cease, before leaning against the vehicle to catch her breath and composure. Keeping an eye out for any possible opponents, Vor Shinse hurriedly took the grenades and fusion cores from her pouches, duct taping a grenade to each core and pocketing them once more. Grenades on their own would do much to power armor, but a detonated fusion core? Now she stood a chance.
