I dare say so, but most conveniences are forged by magic one way or another, I don't think they ever really explain that kinda thing in the FF games, especially in FFX due to a lack of a crafting system. You could take a look at loot lists from the game and make a judge on that. You would assume if they have machines and flying ships, they would at least have several varieties of metal.
