Perhaps it was the way the cool night air brushed through the city, gently touching all pedestrians who had neglected to dress appropriately with a shivery finger of cold, or perhaps it was the eerie stillness of the early-morning air as a strained silence, broken only by the rumble of cars passing on the road, prevailed throughout the 20th Ward. Of course, silence was to be expected at 3 AM, a time when not many humans particularly cared to even be awake, much less to be going about business. The moon's light shone that night on a small group of teenagers or early adults, it was hard to tell. Drunk and likely coming from a wild night of partying, the eight of them stumbled across the sidewalk, holding onto each other for support as a few of them of them staggered occasionally. The moon smiled on them sadly, as she knew the state they would be in later on when the alcohol got to them in the form of hangovers. Just before a shadow passed before her face to block her view, she caught a glimpse of a flash of red hair and a wispy piece of a ruffled fabric, translucently teal against the darkness of the building the figure stood on. A lantern swung from the mysterious figure's hand, lit and glowing a warm orange. The moon peered worriedly in the direction of the inebriated bunch, but the cloud drifted, impeding her line of sight. She sighed, waiting impatiently for the cloud to move on. When it finally did, however, there was nothing left to watch. There were seven bodies lying in twisted, unnatural positions that could only mean they were dead. The eighth was missing, and she knew instinctively that the unfortunate individual had likely served as the dinner for the ghoul from earlier. It didn't take long for the CCG to arrive, and they taped off the area as they led their investigation, but they were too late. The deed had been done, and she knew there would be consequences. She knew there would be more deaths in the near future. But the time for her to be in the sky over Ward 20 was finishing, and she sank past the horizon to gaze upon another, happier place. ~ Hi! This is my first RP I've hosted here, and I sincerely hope people are interested in this. To those who haven't heard about Tokyo Ghoul, it's rather dark-themed, so if that's not your cup of tea, you are encouraged to move on to a lighter campaign. If, however, that is your cup of tea, (or coffee, however the case may be,) then by all means, read on! You don't have to have seen the anime, though it is highly recommended, since I've added a rather detailed explanation of the important bits below. I am basing this off the anime to date, mainly because I don't want to deal with Haise.
Tokyo Ghoul is based around a fictional version of Japan, (Yeah, yeah, in Tokyo specifically) which is exactly like modern-day Japan in all aspects but one. You guessed it, the difference is the existence of Ghouls. Ghouls are flesh-eating monsters who look exactly like humans in every way, at least until they get hungry or threatened. When that happens, this happens: Ghouls can also change their eye appearance back and forth from their natural color to this by choice or when they use their kagune. What the heck is a kagune, you might ask? A kagune is a extension of a Ghoul's body that they can utilize to fight or increase their mobility. Each Ghoul is born with a unique kagune, but families rarely share kagune traits, such as color or function, in the same way that hair color or eye color is shared among normal families. Kagunes come in various kinds, classified by what they do. Here's a list of them and a detailed explanation, if you're interested:
Ukaku An Ukaku Kagune (Japanese 羽赫, romanization ukaku, English feather-red) is spread out like feathers and is released from the shoulder area, it specializes in high speed attacks, most of the users seeming to have hugely enhanced speed. The kagune is lightweight and can be used to deliver high-speed attacks against an adversary, the primary method of attack is crystallising their kagune to deliver a high speed torrent of spike like projectiles, however whilst crystallised they are much stiffer and can't be used for short range combat. While the kagune is suited both for short-distance and long-distance attacks, short-range is considered their weakness.[1] They are able to use their kagune as a shield and some users are shown to be able to shape them into sharp blades, reminiscent of a Koukaku, to aid in close quarters, many have shown to be able to increase the flexibility of their kagune for short range combat though this makes it ill suited for their distinctive long range attacks. Altogether, ukaku-type ghouls have a high chance to end the battle after a short time. However, releasing the Rc cells extremely decreases stamina. Thus, ukaku-type users lack endurance and are at a disadvantage if the battle drags on for a long time. Ukaku kagune can use their speed and mobility to shoot down a Bikaku-type user. However, a koukaku-type user can surprise an ukaku-type user by successfully guarding against the ukaku-type user's attacks, leaving the Ukaku vulnerable to counterattacks and exhausting the ukaku-type user in the long run. Known Ukaku Ghouls are Kazuichi Banjou, Eto, Kaya Irimi, Ayato Kirishima, Hikari Kirishima, Touka Kirishima,Noyama, Ginshi Shirazu, Sumiharu Katou, Koharu Utsumi, Yoshimura, and Renji Yomo. Koukaku A Koukaku kagune (Japanese 甲赫, romanization kōkaku, English shell-red) is released below the shoulder blade. Due to its high density of Rc cell it is heavy and extremely robust, giving it the greatest sturdiness and making them very well suited for defense. Normally, they are generally shaped into armors or shields. But on the offense, they can be shaped like melee weapons such as drills, hammers, blades, and swords . Due to its high weight, a koukaku's speed is inferior to all other kagunes and the kagune is hard to wield. A koukaku can fend off an ukaku onslaught using its guarding capabilities. However, a rinkaku kagune can deliver severe strikes against the slow koukaku, breaking their kagune and breaching their defenses. Known Koukaku Ghouls are Hinami Fueguchi, Ryouko Fueguchi, Arata Kirishima, Matsumae, Ikuma Momochi,Naki, Nutcracker, Nutcracker's Partner, Donato Porpora, Mirumo Tsukiyama, Shuu Tsukiyama, and Kuki Urie. Rinkaku A Rinkaku kagune (Japanese 鱗赫, romanization rinkaku, English scale-red) has an appearance similar to scaled tentacles and is released at the back around the waist. A rinkaku wielder has powerful regenerative abilities that some of them could even survive the most critical damage done to them. Kaneki Ken, a rinkaku, has abnormal regenerative abilities as he inherited Rize's kagune. Its peculiar appearance and structure yield a superior striking power and they excel in brute strength. Some rinkaku users are able to manipulate the shape of their kagune, such as changing its usual tentacle form into swords or claws. This type's regenerative power is a result of the Rc cells easily binding together. Their Rc cells are more similar to liquids. However, this means that the binding force among the Rc cells must be weak, therefore making the kagune very soft and easy to break. But because their Rc cells bind so easily, some rinkaku can bind their multiple tentacle-like kagune together to make a larger, stronger kagune. A rinkaku kagune can deliver severe strikes against the slow koukaku, penetrating the kagune and breaching the koukaku's defenses. However, a rinkaku has serious problems fighting against the balanced bikaku kagune: A bikaku has comprehensively high power, allowing them to fight against the brute-force rinkaku, and the rinkaku kagune's softness makes it comparatively easy for the bikaku to cut the kagune off. This disarms a rinkaku no matter how much strength it may possess, leaving the rinkaku at a disadvantage on the defensive. It has been shown that in some cases, a Bikaku's attack can disable a Rinkaku's regeneration. [2] Known Rinkaku Ghouls are Yuuri Akanuma, Asa, Asaki Fueguchi, Hinami Fueguchi, Rize Kamishiro, Ken Kaneki, Kie Muramatsu, Nico, Yakumo Oomori, Kanae von Rosewald, Karao Saeki, Kurona Yasuhisa, Nashiro Yasuhisa, and Saiko Yonebayashi. Bikaku A Bikaku kagune (Japanese 尾赫, romanization bikaku, English tail-red) typically has a tail-like appearance and is released around the tail-bone/coccyx. It is good for medium-distance attacks and has decent offense, defense and speed. Thus, they have no notable strengths or weaknesses like the kagune based on other Rc types, meaning the kagune itself is treated as a surprise "trump card." A bikaku has better speed and durability against the brute-force, breakable rinkaku, allowing them to cut off the rinkaku's kagune. However, a bikaku will be overwhelmed by the faster ukaku user and will lose against the ukaku's long-range attacks. The balanced characteristics makes the kagune a preferred quinque type for investigators. Known Bikaku Ghouls are Big Madam, the Bin Brothers, Cain, Grave Robber, Akashi Kobayashi, Enji Koma,Matasaka Kamishiro, Miza, Tooru Mutsuki, Nishiki Nishio, Uruka Minami, and Nutcracker.
If you are not interested in reading a wall of words, here's a simpler explanation:
Both Rinkakus and Koukakus can extend and shrink. Ukakus mean you get to shoot stuff out of your kagune and fly. Savvy?
Need more info on kagunes? Want to know what happens to you possible-Ghouls if you cannibalize other Ghouls? Here: http://tokyoghoul.wikia.com/wiki/Kagune And now I'm moving on. Naturally, the government doesn't like Ghouls running around unnoticed, eating tons of people, so they came up with a special government branch, the CCG. The CCG's job is to root out and destroy every Ghoul they find through use of Inspectors, (Or Doves, (Since they dress in white) or Box Carriers. But that's Ghoul slang for the same thing) who are specially trained to eliminate Ghouls. Thing is, only a kagune can destroy another kagune. This being the case, Inspectors carry around briefcases that contain THEIR weapons, Quinques. Quinques are made from the harvested kagunes of dead Ghouls, which are then merged with Quinque steel and forged into portable kagunes. Only Rank 2 and up Investigators are allowed to own a Quinque. Investigators are allowed to have multiple Quinques. Now for the plot of the anime. Google it. Or click this. http://tokyoghoul.wikia.com/wiki/Ken_Kaneki He's the main character. Reading it should give you a decent idea of how stuff went down.
Alright, now for the campaign's actual plot. Exterminate each other. Basically, it's years after the plot of the anime went down. This being the case, everyone from the anime and manga is older, and knows well enough to beat it to the shadows when this goes down. You may encounter a few characters, if I'm feeling nice. Or not so nice. It depends who the character is. (cough, cough, Shu Tsukiyama, cough, cough) Point is, everyone from the series is older. If you make your applications good enough, I may allow one or two people to be related to main characters, just for the heck of it. The plot of this is that there has been a recent case of a group of Ghouls running around the city, killing a few people, eating bits and pieces, then moving on. The CCG does not like this, to put it mildly. They like it even less when they find a mutilated corpse in the alleyway directly behind the main branch primary building. The CCG sends out a group of five of the most elite Investigators they have, in order to put a stop to the group. Unfortunately, it's not actually a group of Ghouls. It's just a single Ghoul that wants to have some fun. (This is my way of saying I'm going to be running around and messing with you guys.) Thing is, not many Ghouls appreciate the extra attention to their species, so they decide elect a few of their best to hurry up and wipe out the CCG team so they can get back to living in safety. Sort of. You have the option of being either a Ghoul or an Investigator. Investigators start off with one Quinque, but if you kill a Ghoul, you get another based off of their kagune. Investigators also get meat shields. By this, I mean that they can call for reinforcement. Reinforcement doesn't last long, since it tends to die rather fast, but you can always use your newfound friends as lures or distractions. Or meat-shields. Ghouls get their kagunes. I have the final say in whether or not you're being OP with it. Ghouls also get to go insane and gain a bit of power if they've eaten another Ghoul recently. (This must be okayed with me before you use it) It doesn't HAVE to be another person's character, but you're gonna have to come up with a darn good fight scene if you wanna use an NPC as a snack. RULES: If you are beaten, admit it. I'll kill you off if you don't. You are considered beaten if you die. Don't worry, if you are eaten, you get to be a little voice in the head of whoever ate you, adding your two cents everywhere and possibly strongly influencing (Read: controlling) their actions occasionally to a limited extent. If you are a Ghoul and you are killed by Investigators...Well congrats, you're now a weapon. You can resist hurting people to a certain extent, but only if your character had a strong relationship or emotional connection with them. You can also perform better in order to slice up that person you didn't like so much in kindergarten if your wielder fights them. I have the final say. If I say you're dead, you're dead. Suck it up. If I say you're OP, tone down the lightning. If I get out of hand and clearly don't know what I'm talking about lore-wise, inform me. No raging in the OOC chat. FORM: ~ Ghoul, Investigator, or Bystander?: (I'm accepting a total of two bystanders to help me screw with people. You must know Tokyo Ghoul very well if you want to be one.) Kagune or Quinque description: Character name: Character age: Character description: (If Ghoul, include mask and confrontational outfit) Character background story: (If you want to be Human-turned Ghoul through organ transplant or similar, just know beforehand that I'm only accepting one of those, and you'll be a bit of an outcast from both Humans and Ghouls.) Characters your character knows/is related to/has met: (Optional, but if your character knows or is related to an actual character, be prepared for extra app scrutiny. You can also put another player's character here if they okay it) Character's favorite food and method of eating it: Character's tells: (Things they do subconsciously when they are lying, happy, annoyed, etc.) Character's personality: Character's current mental state: Coffee or Tea?: Side note: Coffee is the only thing which tastes the same for Ghouls as it does for Humans. Thus, Ghouls tend to drink it a lot, because it helps keep hunger under control. Ghouls cannot eat any other kind of Human food or drink without having to throw it back up soon afterwards. Digesting Human food can be a health risk to Ghouls. Ghouls, if you must eat their food to blend in, make sure to do this, or I will count that towards your health. Did I mention you guys are going to have health bars?
