Brooke hadn't thought of that, but it was logical in hindsight. She nodded. [color=39b54a]"That makes sense. My power, making portals, is like that too. When I'm scared or upset, portals form almost on their own, but it's hard to make them when I'm calm and happy."[/color]

It had been surprising to find that the worse she felt, the easier her power came to her. Brooke wondered what it said about the nature of their powers, that their abilities seemed to appear in reponse to negative emotions. Maybe their powers were just trying to protect them. Maybe there was something more nefarious going on.

[color=39b54a]"But it doesn't have to be that way. I'll learn to control my power better, so I can use it whether I'm calm or upset. You can learn to manage anger, and not hit people with your power when you're mad. That's why we're here,"[/color] she said. Brooke felt that she was perhaps being too optimistic - she didn't really know anything about powers yet - but surely nobody would've built an orphanage to teach kids to manage their powers if it was impossible to.
