That could work. Could imagine one of the crew getting more and more annoyed about the constant tapping that's been coming from the landing gear ever since they left that random planet, before pulling it apart and having a giant ant tumble out :D

Also, how does translation work here? Gonna guess we're going with a sci-fi universal translator thing to explain all the different species?
