[list][*]The psioloi are lightly armed troops drawn from the lowest classes of Bennipolitan society.  Since these people are too poor to afford the weapons necessary to be part of the [i]hoplites[/i], the psioloi bring whatever weapons that they can muster, whether it be a javalin, bow, or sling.  Their main role in the military is to harass the opposing hoplite formation until the Bennipolitans' own hoplite can charge at them.[/list]
[*]ὁπλῖται (hoplites): [code]Heavy Infantry[/code]
[list][*]The hoplite is the mainstay of the Bennipolitan military.  Heavily armored (relatively speaking), they are armed with a round aspis shield and the doru spear.  Due to the length of the doru, hoplites can out-range other spearmen (or any infantry).  The hoplite formation relies on teamwork and cohesion.  Although extremely powerful in pitched battles, the hoplite formation can be easily flanked if their sides are not protected well.[/list] 
[*]πελτασταί (Peltasts): [code]Light Infantry[/code] 
[list][*]An intermediary infantry between the psioloi and the hoplite.  Therefore, they are armed to a degree between the psiloi and the hoplite.  These soldiers are more flexible than their heavy infantry counterparts and can engage in both hand-to-hand and ranged combat situations.[/list] 
[*]πρόδρομοι (Prodromoi): [code]Light Cavalry[/code] 
[list][*]Due to the rough terrain where the Bennipolitans dwell, cavalry takes a backseat role in the army.  Only the wealthiest citizens can own horses, which are otherwise useless animals in this environment.  The Prodromoi are lightly armed cavalry that helps protect the flank of the hoplite formation and harasses the opposing formation with thrown missiles.[/list]
