Laptops are only really worth it if you regularly need a computer when not at home, and a smartphone won't do the trick. This is because they will always perform poorly compared to desktops of the same value. Another issue with laptops is that they don't fix nearly as easily as desktops do. So that would be my advice. Really think about whether or not you need a laptop specifically, or just a computer in general. If you go with desktop, best thing to do is buy a kit from Newegg or some such website and put that mofo together your own self. If you need a laptop, gaming laptops are going to run you quite a bit of money. Find out what specs you need and get a laptop with only just those specs and not much more. If you can, wait until the pre-summer sales get rolling.
