... Doesn't that, like, mean that the actual Witch is, like... absolutely friggin' monstrous?

... Also, do familiars have barriers? Suppose they might have some kind of thing, but lesse. What does that do with my plan that Monika had become scared and hidden herself within the barrier in question, after having, like, just become a Magical Girl several moments before? Uh. Is it equally hard to escape a barrier of a familiar? Um. ... Nope, now I'm feeling a whole lot of doubt at what I'm doing. XD

Can I just point out that Kyubey has like... 2/100 chance of being there if this is parallel to the Madoka events of any timeline? Or are we saying that every incubator goes by that alias?

The only person who mistook the familiar for a Witch was Minerva, who has been a Magical Girl for less than 24 hours. Nobody else has seen it, physically, to confirm its identity. Naturally, being the same fundamental beings, Witches and Familiars are hard to distinguish using nothing but a flashing soul gem.

So, um... outplayed.

Can I just point out that Kyubey has like... 2/100 chance of being there if this is parallel to the Madoka events of any timeline? Or are we saying that every incubator goes by that alias?


It has never been specified which timeline we're in. Also, time zones.

I always assumed Kyubey could be in multiple places at once, the ultimate creeper ability.

So, looking at the two occurrences of familiars in the show... Looks like they did trigger Sayaka's Witch sensing thing, though no idea if it is any different from a real Witch's. It does put up a small barrier, but they hardly look like the mazes I intended Monika to be lost in. ... I may need to come up with an alternative entrance plan or wait a whole lot longer. XD

In any case. I suppose. It just dramatically decreases the scale of things. Hah. ... And isn't the familiar moving? Then it'd leave Monika behind, wouldn't it? Haha.

I'm pretty sure anyone who's in a barrier is stuck there regardless of whether the barrier is moving or not until the creator is destroyed. And from what I gathered in the post, it's actually bigger scale since it's implied that the Witch who can create barrier-forming familiars is real strong.

@Ariamis almost.

The two that require aiming are her core ability, which needs slight aiming with about 3cm margin for failure.
The other is the mind control, which needs to aim at the human/familiar being controlled.

I assumed Kyubey was the name all Incubators used so that even if they end up in different locations, they still appear to be just one single entity. Referring to themselves as a species, or otherwise leaving hints that suggest there are more than one, makes it easier for prospective magical girls to realise that there's some kind of agenda going on. Which there is. One that would make most of them less likely to agree to the contract.

There's a difference between Familiars, the servant of a witch that is completely bound to serve them and tend to their needs (Anthonies, Clara dolls, Pyotr and Polina, etc.) and Familiars, the small spawns of witches that don't have labyrinths per se but do alter space around them and lure people in and will eventually become a witch and drop grief seeds when they do. We don't know if they're the same thing, or if there's a divide between the two types of familiar or more of a sliding scale: as a witch becomes more powerful their familiars become more sentient and split away to become more witches. At this point it's up to fanon which one we go for, unless the upcoming fourth movie promises to explain this, we might as well use whatever kind of familiar we want.
