Like ace was saying its a disease, it spreads much in the way a virus does which is very rapidly. ;>
Sorry we don't have any century old vampires, in this rp vampires die just like regular people, except that they need to eat human(or vampire) flesh to satisfy the disease(other wise the disease would kill them). 

Considering murder rates its believable people would just brush this sort of thing off as murder.
