It took me a solid 30 minutes deciding who the master was. It was fairly difficult but I went with one from canon. The only limitation would be that the 'master' was alive then, a Knight or higher, and would be allowed by the council to train. You could go obscure but it has to make sense.

Totally up for Master-Padawan with you, them being them same species helps. You should only make another character if you can handle the load.
