That said, Itsuko can pass the impression that she's nothing but an arrogant fool to those around her, at least until they get acquainted to her and notice that, indeed she has an ego the size of the Sun, but she's no fool, or mean.

However, Itsuko has a habit of sticking up with people that she sees as those that need a bit of fire in their lives, or those she thinks are fun (though Itsuko's sense of fun is highly twisted because of her personality), after all... "If you don't think of yourself as the protagonist of your life, who will?" That's the most valuable lesson Itsuko got from her parents.

[i]Itsuko Mariann Kanzaki, is the only daughter of the former commander of the US military base at Okinawa and the heiress of the Kanzaki zaibatsu, an industrial and financial conglomerate so vast and powerful that it's said that with a snap of their fingers the economy of the whole Japan could be snapped in half at a moment's notice.

To say that Itsuko had a privileged upbringing would be a gross euphemism, specially considering that her parents (as busy as they were) managed to avoid the stereotype of uncaring parents and made their best to be sure that Itsuko was always well.
