Thirty long, arduous, and trying years have passed since the Passage, a large exodus of storybound individuals called Vales from one realm to the next, where they landed themselves in a world where their lives have been forever imbued in legends, stories, and tales. An escape from the all consuming rage that took their people by the throat and squeezed until death befell their realm, Mystvale Valley, by the droves. Thousands lying dead to unknown, malicious entities looking for none other than their absolute destruction. Their once prosperous realm went dark the moment the tear in the realms closed, severing the connection between Mystvale and its denizens. They suffered silence and loss of direction in this new world, unknown to what monstrosity sat between them and what used to be their home. It felt like an interlude, the quiet break before things turned downhill. They didn’t realize the stage had been readily set for the second act and that their lives would only worsen in the coming years. Now, these beings settle in a small town off the coast of New England, having adjusted to their surroundings. Some have lost hope entirely, digging their roots into jobs and businesses and blending in naturally to their human counterparts. Others still wait, whether in squalor or opulence, for a sign that their home awaits reclamation, whether by some odd luck or by force. However, they remain close knit, choosing those fit to govern their actions and relying on trusted individuals to make sure their identities remain hidden to mortal eyes. Though, few denizens elude this mockery of a government in favor of following their own set of rules and standards. Lines drawn and further evidence of dissent eclipses a growing problem rising in the background. Things fall apart when a single tear is reopened. Nightmares mingle in the background before digging their claws into something greater than the home of fairy tale creatures: Earth.

This RP kind of verges the line of modern fantasy slice-of-life style of storytelling and grimdark fairy tale mingling in the background. I don't intend to make this super edgy and noir, but it has some of that feel to it—I think I like the idea of semi-noir, detective-ish, but certainly not as the basis. If I were to mash it up, I'd say Buffy the Vampire Slayer with a True Detective feel to it. Less campy, but not as extremely serious. I guess that's why I put both Once Upon a Time and Fables up there, because it hits that middle ground nicely. Like I said in the interest check, the RP is going to be both plot intensive and character driven. Everyone's going to have an important role in driving the plot, as well as hopefully coming up with some plot ideas themselves. It's not a sandbox, but I'm more than willing to give people free reign on ideas whether as a whole or for their characters. I'll be a guiding hand, definitely, but I want to give people enough creative freedom to make this story their own. As for the plot itself, that's why I gave that weird comparison in the first paragraph. On the surface, it seems less serious with the magic and the local politics, but I intend for things to get rather out of hand and a little darker as the RP starts to pick up its feet and gain some traction. That's where our antagonist(s) come in, firstly playing in the background, and then coming to the forefront of the RP. I suppose that's for you guys to solve, though. I don't intend to make things easy. That being said, I don't think character death is going to play much of a role unless people leave/disappear entirely, or things escalate enough that someone volunteers, someone asks permission, or comes forth with an idea. I don't intend to smite down anyone's character, since this isn't a combat oriented roleplay. The setting will stay the same. I don't plan on having our characters do that back and forth bit OUAT tends to do. As for writing, it's casual level, so I don't expect people to be mind blowingly amazing, but I do expect people to have a grasp of the English language. I don't like it when GMs say: I'm not a grammar nazi, but if there's consistent errors... etc. etc. That makes me doubt myself because I tend to make weird typos when writing and they make me feel dumb quite often. So, when I mean consistent errors, I mean illegible and illiterate to the point where I could read text speak better than that post. Anyway, just make sure to proof read, but I'm not gonna hound you about it; improve at your own pace and when you want advice and help, ask for it. Posting speed is maybe gonna be a bit slow, it honestly depends on the group we have, but I expect at least one post a week. Tell me when you can't and all that jazz.

Make sure to stay within the bounds of the character's story. I'm looking for adaptations that you make your own and not entirely new characters with "Big Bad Wolf" smacked on as a label. That being said, it's all up to your interpretation, just make sure that the fairy tale character you're using and their story is a solid foundation of inspiration. And definitely no carbon copies of existing characters in various other media. That means no Bigbys, no Reginas, and no Shreks (?????). The character can be a villain, a hero, or anything in between in a fairy tale, story, fable, etc. I'm not allowing mythologies unless you can give me a twist on it and make it compelling. But, absolutely no deities or omniscient beings. The usual no mary/gary stus and no OP characters. This isn't combat oriented, so don't make a character that's sole purpose is to be a bad ass. You can have up to 4. I'll make a list of taken character ideas. As it stands, currently taken ones are: Red Riding Hood or Goldilocks, King Midas, Pied Piper, Musician Town of Bremen, Aladdin, Merlin, Arthur, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan. I'll make an actual, comprehensive list soon with bullet points. Make it official and super cool to look at. Yeah! ;D

CHARACTER'S NAME
[img]Insert your character's picture here; I'm only accepting realistic pictures, by the way.
