Well for the most part their usual task force duties are mostly for either large cases that need detective work, or sometimes supernatural occurances that go on within the world. 
Most of the time as mentioned, they end up doing what they want and going after whoever they feel is dangerous or a threat. 

The big thing to note is they aren't actually authorized for most of their operations.
