[@spacecakes] So I asked [@Apokalipse] who spent much, much time on all the witch lore (God love her), and we think that there aren't any specific covens for a school of magic – the individual witch chooses what to specialise in. Also, given that this is London, a Louisiana based practice is going to be extremely rare and there's unlikely to be more than four/five people if even that in the city who study it. It would be a small coven that is probably distrusted if it's even known about (as necromancy isn't the most savory of arts). They're more likely to be a small group within one of the larger covens in Britain. Unless you wanted your character to come from America, in which case ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it's all background information anyway. Fae/Witch definitely not possible though. Witches are normal humans with magical talent, Fae are definitely not human.
I'll have to do a couple of research about it as well. But I like to think that my character is the only person who knows the medium (I'm possessive that way) and that it's a birthright thing rather than by choice, where tribes forcibly implement these stuff to anyone who has a high enough affinity to wield it. (cue reluctant witch doctor character) Voodoo is a dieing practice and what's left of its practitioners does everything to preserve it. Yes, I guess the Louisiana practice would be extremely rare but not unheard of, maybe even considered taboo/illicit by most. That being said, I think making a character fresh off the boat is most likely for the setting.
