Let's rephrase this, then. 

I believe in the right to criticize the government, openly and without fear, and to criticize people, openly and without fear. 

I [i]do not[/i] believe in the right for the Klan or the Westboro Baptist Church to stage hate-rallies and to protest funerals. These do nothing but fan the flames of civil strife and only keep help to keep racism alive. 

Those are extreme examples, but they work for the point I'm trying to make.
