I'm bad at naming swords, I know. Whilst the traditional design is there and unmissable, the fact that the coat has been tie-dyed no less than seven times and sports all the colours of the rainbow makes a mockery of what was once pristine white. It's actually a duplicate that she had made. She has a white one for occasions when the bright colours would either make a mockery of a solemn occasion, or the other captains want to murder her. Her reiatsu is turquoise.[/sub]

₪ - Division & Rank

[sub] 8th Division, Captain[/sub]

₪ - Ideology

[sub]Kaede believes in not worrying too much about the big picture--deal with problems as they arise, as completely as you can, and enjoy the time you've saved by dealing with things early however you feel like. This tends to come across as a rather lazy attitude, since whilst she puts the work in, she tries to avoid having much work to do. Not that it's a good idea to say this to her face, since the 8th Division captain takes pride in her abilities, including said efficiency... and she has quite a temper. Fond of drinking, Kaede often makes overtures to other captains and their lieutenants to hit up bars, regardless of their location in Soul Society. She also enjoys fighting but, in keeping with wanting to solve problems as efficiently as possible, doesn't waste time in dragging it out: end things as quickly as possible with as little collateral damage as possible. Given her speciality, these two goals can often conflict--but as she's a guardian, avoiding excess damage reluctantly takes precedence.[/sub]

₪ - History

[sub]Having been a captain for an exceedingly long time, Kaede has held her position for longer than many colleagues have even been shinigami and, consequently, has learned to take her duty of protecting Soul Society with the utmost seriousness. Every time a new captain or lieutenant has been promoted since she got over her own green phase, she's taken the time out to offer advice and (for captains) assistance whilst they're still finding their feet--because whilst she could relax, she has a duty as their senior to make sure that everything is going as planned.[/sub]

₪ - Abilities

[sub]Kaede is, as expected of an experienced captain, pretty well rounded: she'd never have got to her current position and stayed there without passable all-around proficiency. She's definitely one for force over speed and finesse, however--and what better way to introduce force to your basic repertoire than kido? It's safe to say that with Kaede's default approach to problems being 'high level incantations', more than one person in the past has been surprised she has nothing to do with the kido corps.[/sub]

[sub]
₪ - Z a n p a k u t o
[/sub]
₪ - Zanpakuto Spirit

[sub] Moonlight Butterfly (Gekkou Chou) is, as you would expect, a butterfly. It is not, however, made of moonlight, though it does shine bright enough to earn the name. Like both Kaede's reiatsu and her bankai, it's mostly greenish-blue. Like its owner, Moonlight Butterfly is a relaxed spirit--but prideful and with a preference for force, despite its delicate appearance.[/sub]

₪ - Inner World

[sub]A very still forest of enormous trees. Appropriately enough, it's always night, and always a full moon.[/sub]

₪ - Shikai

[sub]Released with "Blaze", Moonlight Butterfly's shikai form shows its nature as a kido-type zanpakuto: a shining green blade (reiatsu? WORK IT OUT) in the form of a straight sword. It's obvious benefit over its sealed state is that Kaede can alter the size and length of the blade, as well as extending the hilt via the same means, to function as anything from a dagger to an immense sword trying to live up to the skyscraper-sized potential of a captain's zanpakuto. Her preference is to increase it to the approximate size of a western two-handed weapon. The less obvious effect is that Moonlight Butterfly can be used to fire kido--either the instant the spell is cast, or holding it until ordered to release. This obviously only works with something that can be fired in the first place, but it allows Kaede to release a spell even on a grazing cut--such as a bind to set up for a finishing blow.[/sub]

₪ - Bankai

[sub]Heaven Piercing Moonlight Butterfly (Tengen Toppa Gekkou Chou). Released by raising the shikai over her own head, the kido swells to form an immense pair of butterfly wings--composed, like actual butterfly wings, of apparent scales. Though predominantly the same bright green as the shikai, there are also patches of pale blue and a darker shade that makes it altogether more colourful than the previous form. These wings can fold in a way completely unlike any actual butterfly, forming a shining defensive shield to, say, permit time to go through an incantation. On closer inspection, the scales are sword blades--sword blades that can point and fire themselves at whatever target earned the right to face Kaede's bankai. On impact, they dissipate and another replaces the gap in the butterfly wings. Kaede can also grasp one of the swords to continue using the kido weapon as a normal blade, with the same effect as her shikai. Any suitable incantation can also be spread across the full length of the wings at the cost of potency--an incanted kido will be reduced to one without, and skipping the incantation is mostly useful for distractions or death by a thousand cuts. However, the sheer quantity of attacks can often make up for the quality drop.[/sub]
