She still had to maintain the image of urgency, but at the same time it didn’t sound like she would be able to rush ahead of this group again. She supposed she would just have to stay with them, but she could feel her story falling apart as she did. An outlaw in the mountains? Maybe there was, but frankly, who cares? They could be anywhere up there, and surely they already knew the Scizor was nearby. She was already regretting telling the Vanillite about it. Now when he realized that there was not in fact impending doom by outlaw, he would surely tell of her lie. She resolved to instead follow the original plan, and hope the damage done to it wasn’t too bad. She would integrate herself with the town, and use her eventual influence as an excuse to investigate the guild and locate the treasures. Hat visibly deflated, becoming smaller. She couldn’t believe herself, for getting wrapped up in that side-plan like that. She knew she needed the money as soon as possible for her long-term plans, but that was a bad idea. She would likely have to work even harder to get a good reputation, now that one pokemon knew that the first thing she’d done in town was tell a lie. This was going to be a long, long job. She decided- She wouldn’t tell the guildmaster the same lie she did the vanillite. She would instead just stick with this nice group of individuals, with which she was at least slightly acquainted. The Mawile, which she’d initially thought was just unhappy to see her, actually seemed to just be unhappy in general. Somehow, this was much more comforting. Hat resolved to get to know her first, as it looked like every other Pokemon was just a kid. She’d start by apologizing. She had been rather rude earlier, after all. “Hey, uh, Ms Mawile, sorry bout leaving you like that earlier,” she said, moving up next to her again.
