Zoey Reese

9:00 am
Holding her mint-green toothbrush, Zoey listened to the grand masterpiece of Yehudi Menuhin, one of the world’s best violinists to ever live. Nothing gave her more pleasure than the sound of bows dancing upon string and she showed the mirror a slight smile as she continued brushing her teeth. Today would be prove to be an interesting event for it was the eldest Reese’s birthday. Strange things always seemed to follow whenever the Reese’s hosted some form of public event and she had no doubt tonight would be the same. Earlier in the morning, two quiet figures had tiptoed out of the house, whispering about things Zoey didn’t care enough to eavesdrop on. Of course they hadn’t woken her, she was always the first to rise but she simply stayed confined her bed until it was time to get out bed.  Whoever it was, although she believed the footsteps belonged to one of her brothers and Sophia, would be back soon enough. The early morning was one of the few moments Zoey could enjoy herself in complete silence, and she intended to use every second of her peace. Things had certainly changed over the past few months as Kylie had been sent away for professional help after her obsession over Riley had been revealed. Who would have thought such a secret harbored in her own sister? It was certainly odd and the fact that she hid it for so long intrigued Zoey. Secrets could be deadly bombs waiting to be unleashed. She would know. Everyone had some, whether they chose to admit it or not. Kylie’s secret coming to the surface had left Zoey a little more out of it than usual. Talking had become a rare occasion, even for her, and she spent the majority of her time out of the house. She never told anyone where she was going, she simply left. Zoey didn’t know if her siblings noticed nor she did care much. Being around others and her family had just become quite an exhausting matter. After caring for her hygiene and dressing into a comfortable pair of jeans and a green hoodie, Zoey carefully grabbed her precious violin and made her way to the family living room. Plopping onto the comfortable sofa, she began plucking the strings of her violin and tuned it. While Kylie had been away, Zoey had dabbled in composing her very own music and was pleasantly surprised with her results. One song in particular was inspired by both Kylie and herself, Zoey titled it Into the flames. It wasn’t completely finished, there was still a few final touches and adjustments needed to be made, but she felt it was a rather successful song for one of her age. Perhaps whenever Kylie returned to the Reese home, she’d play it for her. She’d been gone for so long, Zoey wondered if she would ever return.
10am
An engine rumbled from the driveway, indicating the return of the birthday girl. Zoey didn’t even look at the door as it cracked open and her siblings walked in. She simply stayed focus on the task at hand, only a few moments remained until her beloved instrument would be perfectly tuned.
