Trying to explain this as simple as possible, bear with me if it gets complicated.
It's like Skyrim Enchanting, but without a soul gem and on items that do not have to be a weapon or armor.
For example, let's say a horde was going to invade a village. The binder could bind the gates of the village to... let's say a realm where it rains lava. When the horde enters the gates, they will be teleported to that realm and be hurt by lava. The binder can then remove the bound realm from the gates and the horde would be stuck there.
At least that's how I interpret it.
