I think the trick with Zachary is that Echo would be less trying to appease to him as such, but instead presenting himself as innocuous and commonplace as possible, I suppose. This would simultaneously appeal to his notions of what an ideal human should be (straightforward, upstanding, etc.), and also help keep his piercing attention away from and off of Echo. Even if he did put his focus on Echo for whatever reason, he probably couldn't unravel the full picture from his powers alone. He would get the feeling that something is off and not what it seems, but he wouldn't be able to piece together what that aberrant something is. If Echo actually feels anxiety or even dread about being found out, he would probably be able to pick up on that after prolonged exposure, but that still wouldn't really give him ideas of what he was hiding or [i]why.[/i]
