It was like a bad dream, or more precise: A bad comedy show. And Jane wouldn’t stand for it. With only a single second’s hesitation she understood what was threatening her. “Traitor!” Jane spit and reach out at the floor. The same blinding flash she had used earlier exploded from her palm, while her other hand reached into her pack. Just like she had practiced so many times the fingers found what they were looking for, and the next moment she stood with an armed grenade in her hand. People had started to recover from the flash. “No, don’t!” a random bystander yelled out and was then immediately interrupted by an even louder explosion, as the thing went off. There was light. yellow light lit up the entire room. And fire; a flaming ball in Jane’s hand that erupted in slow-motion, stopped and then started to shrink. Soon Jane had absorbed the entire frag explosion and the immense energy turned her eyes orange for a brief moment. Going to the theater had been a mistake. The shelter had been clumsy, too many had heard about it on the street. It was probably how these muscle-for-the-scientists had heard about it. “You are not prepared for me!” Jane yelled out with just as much energy as was currently flowing through her. She looked around, hoping to face whoever was gonna be her enemy. “Do you hear me, asshole? You are not prepared!”
