You might be better off simply giving a full explanation of your system to begin with instead of saying you'll explain it as you go. On-the-fly explanations almost always miss something important or end up creating unnecessary confusion for your players, and without a rules-as-written explanation to refer to for clarification purposes that confusion will likely cause problems further down the line.
