It wasn't easy to sit on that boat and pretend to be normal. Peter's heart was beating faster than it had ever been before. Not even battles with Captain Hook had caused such a pattering in his chest. His eyes scanned the grey deck around him and noticed a small girl sitting across the way from him that was staring deeply at him. Her dark skin shone against the weak sun that was peeking through the clouds and peter saw a part of a smile on her face creeping up. He looked away and tried not to focus on the other people on the boat swaying aimlessly with the waves rolling beneath them. All grown ups, all mundane and useless in his opinion. They all wore the same kinds of clothes and smelled the same, like paper and oil and cars and adult stuff. No one had the characteristic scent of earth and joy and fun that he admired in all his Lost Boys, the scent of a child, not one single being on the boat had this... except the little girl across from him.
