Race A Land Nymph As a Land Nymph, Arethusa is connected to a specific landform. Her own landform is a beautiful glowing forest, the trees a canopy of flowing green leaves. It is inhabited by a wide variety of peaceful animals, birds chirping rapidly to break any silence. It is also taken up as a home for some smaller Fae, such as brownies and sprites that have no land in the cramped main kingdoms. This magical place powers Arethusa, it is her life force. Her soul is connected to it, and so are her emotions. Whenever Arethusa is upset, the trees wilt. If she is angry, the brook floods, when she is happy, the forest remains beautiful and peaceful. When she is in her forest, her connection with nature grows tenfold, and she is at her most powerful. The downside of course, is that if her forest is destroyed, she will die along with it. This is the reason only smaller Fae know it's location. The only powerful Fae that knows about her wonderland is Feoras, and she lets him wander there from time to time when he goes on strolls. Being a Land Nymph gives Arethusa the ability to manipulate the earth, alongside her other Fae powers. She can manipulate rock and gemstone, as long as it has not been processed. Of course, she can manipulate the ground around her, and she can phase into the ground of her forest because it is connected to her soul. She also has a knack for speaking with animals. Court The Summer Kingdom Position/Occupation To keep from being under constant pressure from nosey Fae, she willingly became the Advisor of the Summer King. Age Arethusa is 1,848 years old. She counts her age using markings in an old willow tree. When she was formed, her spirit was tied to her landscape. She has grown with it, the saplings growing into trees representing her growing from a child to an adult. Just like those trees, her appearance will stay mostly the same throughout the rest of her life. Personality Arethusa is a typically calm person, because her mood plays deeply on the condition of her forest. This makes her the perfect contrast to her King, who is a rather hotheaded Fae. She’s smart and uses tact instead of spitting vile words. She has an unusually high level of tolerance, but when she explodes she's not to be messed with. Even though she's very collected, she does like to be open with others, and enjoys the company of people. When it comes to love, she is a giver. She loves hard with little regrets. Unfortunately, she has never found someone who shares her affections. That is why she accepts so many little Fae into her personal forest, because she gets lonely even around the many animals. She hasn't found enough time to care if it's a danger to her life, because she refuses to stop being busy. She likes to be appreciated, because she's a hard worker. She also enjoys a good dance, or stroll through the wilderness that is the Fae realm. She dislikes staying in one place for too long, or losing those she's close to. Nymph Form In her Nymph Form, Arethusa stands at a graceful six feet, her build athletic, but far from muscular. Her entire body has a light green hue, and her skin glitters, as though there's chlorophyll flowing through her veins. In fact, this is the case. There are leaves growing on her body, wrapping around her her right ankle and above her left elbow in thick bands that look like bracelets. If one looks, they can see rootlike veins just under her skin. They are most prevalent in her forehead, legs, and arms. Her hair color is a varying mixture of different greens, some dark enough to be considered black. She is always wearing some sort of wreath in her hair, to match the leaves on her skin. When she is required to wear clothes, she dons flowy dresses. Their tones match the colors of the nature around her, pale greens and washes of emerald. When she is alone though, she usually dances in the nude, frolicking through the forest as her ancestors did. If one were to center on her face, they would see beautiful almond eyes, the color of limes grown from the Summer Kingdom. Her eyes appeared to be lined with kohl, but it's simply her natural appearance. On her cheeks is the same glitter that matches the rest of her face, and when she blushes it can hardly be seen under the green of her face. She has a very feminine face, shaped perfectly to fit the rest of the Faes. Her lips are plump and red, and like the rest of her body, they have a green tint. Glamor Form In her Human Form, Arethusa is only five feet six inches, a mere shadow of her former self. Her build stays roughly the same, but she is more compact and a bit less graceful. Her hair becomes raven black, and in the sunlight it shifts to a sort of purple hue. Her skin is fair, and her leafy bands are little more than tattoos. This is how one would single her out in a group of other humans. She has plain brown eyes, with the same full red lips. Depending on the time period, she will wear whatever the other humans do. Family Arethusa was not born...but formed. Her soul was created and tied to her landform, by who or what she does not know. Her family is all other nymphs, who are her sisters or brothers (though brothers are few and far between) Ambition Arethusa craves to find someone who is her equal. She also wishes to serve Feoras well, until his heart heals and he can rule the kingdom on his own. History When Arethusa was formed, she had memories of nymphs before her. Never names, or personalities, but customs and traditions. It was a sort of rulebook she was meant to follow, that was already etched deep into her young soul. With her birth, came her land. Before, there had been a small sliver of stagnant water that one could barely drink out of, but upon her birth trees began to sprout. The sliver of water became a large brook, feeding the land around it and making it beautiful once again. Animals rejoiced, and the brave pixies who dared to look upon the land found a new home. Gone was trying to survive in a cramped kingdom, among those bigger than them. No one treated her as a queen, because she wasn't one. It was her duty as a protector of the forest to give refuge to those who sought it out. They still bowed down to their King, and most of them had jobs in the court. By the time she was eleven thousand years old, her forest was thriving, her mood was almost always joyful so the people lived without fear. In following the traditions of the nymphs, she frolicked around the forest nude in her free time. Dancing to the songs of the creek. Whenever other Fae caught her, they would give her rude looks, like she was a disgrace. She hadn't a clue why they would do that, so she changed nothing. Until the day she met the Summer King. She was only fifteen thousand years old when she first gazed upon him, he had done a double take as he viewed her naked form dancing through nature. He had stopped her, and explained to her that she was supposed to be working at this time. Through him, Arethusa learned the customs that she still frequently ignored. There was no reason to get a job in the court, she already had a village to attend to! Why busy herself with stress when emotions like that made her forest droop? However, people started to get suspicious. They wondered where she went every night, because a Wild Fae just wouldn't do. Every day, she was pressured by one person or another, as they barraged her with questions. The only presence she accepted was Feoras, because he simply wanted to pass by and chat. Of course, being the hothead he was, it was rather difficult to get into a deep conversation with him. Chunk by chunk, she broke down his walls. He came to her regularly for advice, to take care of his kingdom. One time, he overstepped his boundaries. Without revealing his presence, he followed her back to her sanctuary. Then, when they arrived, he had the audacity to blame her for not looking around. That was the third time her creek had flooded, dangerously reaching their feet with rapid waters. To appease her, he revealed that he had come along to give her a position in the castle. She would work as his advisor whenever he needed it, and take care of the kingdom when he was gone. In return, her secret would be safe and she would receive no more questions. She accepted the deal, willing to take the offer if it meant keeping her forest safe from bigger Fae that would overthrow her in an instant. She has kept the job for the past thousand years, dealing with her King’s temper gracefully and calmly.
