Full name: The Great Dragon (formerly The Red Dragon, real name unknown) Age: 39 Hometown: Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan Team: TBD/ "Pro Wrestling Love" (name subject to change) Character theme: If you know The Great Muta, you know what this is. Appearance: Standing at six feet sharp and weighing in at 220 pounds, The Great Dragon has changed quite a bit since he first made an impact in the pro wrestling world as The Red Dragon several years ago. Discipline: Strong Style pro wrestling The Great Dragon eschews the high flying lucha libre style typically associated with comparatively smaller wrestlers and instead employs a very grounded approach based upon his training in chinese martial arts and submission grappling. He used to be much flashier in his early years, greatly favoring high-impact jumping, spinning and dashing attacks which he can still engage in, but he has toned it down with age and it’s helped preserve his body and extend his career. Brief bio: One of the elder statesmen of the pro wrestling world, a multiple time SWF world and tag team champion who has kept an international following since his early 20s, when he wrestled as the arrogant, bizarre foreign heel known as The Red Dragon. Known for his unique, kung fu inspired Strong Style of wrestling and his ability to reinvent himself and retain a strong work rate and his health even as he nears 40 in a business known for being extremely harsh on the body. Not all is well for The Great Dragon, however. The world lives and breathes martial arts, but pro wrestling is suffering from a period of drought. More and more people move away from it, decrying it as fake, and potential talent is taken away to participate in other disciplines. Worse than that, the people in charge of major leagues like the SWF and CWA have mismanaged the previously powerful companies into their worst period in years and the livelihood of many is at risk. Aside from a few figures, pro wrestlers are fast losing credibility as they attempt to enter fighting tournaments unprepared and suffer embarrassing defeats, further killing the credibility of the sport. This cannot stand. And so The Great Dragon issues both a public challenge and an open invitation: He will enter the next King of Fighters tournament alone and invites any two pro wrestlers from across the world to prove they can fight and join him in his journey. They will prove the strength of pro wrestling to the world, and woe of anyone who invokes the wrath of the Dragon. Notes: The Red Dragon was part of an honestly not very good wrestling game by SNK called Fire Suplex in Japan and the nowhere near as cool 3 Count Bout elsewhere. He is a shameless ripoff of The Great Muta, one of the greatest stars japanese pro wrestling has ever produced, with an added martial arts gimmick. So, for funsies, I decided to take Red Dragon and further parallel his career to Muta's. That's an older Muta for the picture and I mirrored how Muta slowed down and stopped employing high impact acrobating moves while still managing to reinvent himself and remain one of the most popular workers in Japan and possibly the world well into his 40s. The SWF is the pro wrestling company in Fire Suplex, while the CWA is the one in Capcom's Saturday Night Slam Masters.
