As for Alil'taris, the way I'm thinking is that we're probably going to end up with some kind of Pinocchio scenario, or at least questions about her origin, so forward-thinking to potential plot developments. Personally I'd go with "imbuing a spirit" instead of "creating life." Ghosts have already been mentioned in the writeup for the Curiosity Shop. For simplicity's sake, perhaps this is a haunted machine, and the person that is Alil'taris was once alive, only she has no memories of that other time. In this case, the stone could be anything that might have belonged to the original person, to which the ghost is attached.
