Name:
Lindsey Ifans
Nicknames:
Lindy
Alias:
The Imp, Impness
Age:
24
Sex:
Female
Appearance:
Lindy is average height at about five foot five-six inches, though her weight is not something she discusses willingly it's hundred and ten pounds of pure sinew, muscle, and bones. Looking rather waif like in her get up of 'Impness' she may not look like she can pack a punch. With a very angular face and slightly slanted eyes and highly arched brows that make her look like she's always questioning something (which she indeed is).Her eye color would appear to be red with cat like irises due to contacts, her actual eye colour is a rather non-commental pale blue. Her beak of a nose sits over a delicate mouth that's often either in a maniacal grin or ranting at some machine. Her red hair is slicked back against her head. Her day to day clothes however are rather plain and just blend in with the local populace well, if their a little bit more worn and lower class. Reasonable for someone who works with machines, but sadly this does not apply to her 'Imp' outfit. Black combat boots with steel toes, and a knife shoved into each ankle. Her socks never match, though most wouldn't be able to tell from the tight black pants that hang about the boot tops loosely. Belted with a black belt to keep a matching coloured silky buttoned down shirt neatly tucked in and the collar of it showing a red bowtie. Over this is a crimson vest complete with a black rose in the brest pocket and a pocket watch featuring a certain white rabbit. With a large black trench coat with red threaded designs of the different card suits along the edge, she looks rather grim. But within that coat is a horde of pockets, pouches, and loops that would put Batman's belt to shame. Not one part of the coat is left to lie bare. Fingerless black gloves hide needles and lockpicks on the back of the hands under patches "Grim" and "Dispair". With a large, black V-wing mask, no one can really see much of her upper face save for the demonic eyes, which is very much intended. Though the pride of the entire assemble is a black top hat, wrapped with a red ribbon and very much worn, though a good eye can tell it's been diligently cared for.
Powers/Skills:
-Genius/Madness: Never one to think inside the box, this leads to some interesting contraptions and breaking of reality in some senses. It's a blessing and a curse. A curse due to the fact it point of obsession for Lindy. -Engineering/Inventing: Impness had created many contraptions using hydroponics, steam and other systems. Her entire base is powered by the sewer system. While they may not be highest of technology, it will work in their favor. About to work about the general hacking of systems, or being able to lie low and undetected. She can create, destroy, disable and rearm machines and devices with a certain ease and efficient. So long as the latter doesn't become a obsession for her. -Biology: She knows how the human body, and other bodies for that matter, are set up and how to best take them apart. She can brew up diseases, toxins, and cures though it may take her a bit longer than her engineering, and she's a perfectionist. Going above and beyond for safety of herself, though for other it really depends. -Chemistry: Understanding the building blocks of life, she knows how things are made up and can be taken apart a nuclear level. Often attempting to make new and better matter. Though she prefers to call it Alchemistry, as she is not trying to understand any longer but forge beyond what chemistry allows. Something she keeps close to herself, wary of people interfering. -Contortionist: She can twist her body into many a tight place. Lindy tries to make it a habit to appear boneless in her movements, and gestures. -Physically Fit: She can preform acrobatics/gymnastics and parkour to a high degree. Though it was learned in order to keep herself from being pinned down in a fight, or trapped. Survival on the streets has honed her skills in avoiding a fight. A fight meant injury and that was a dangerous thing in her early years. -Stealth/Thievery: Not above stealing she learned how to rob the robbers, slipping about their hideouts and taking them out or taking their ill gotten gains. Usually both when she could manage it. She learned how to pick a pocket and lock as well to aid in this. She can preform stealthy take downs with a bit of help from her chemistry and engineering background, and makes it habit to try and move quietly as possible.
Backstory:
Lindy was born to Harrison Ifans, a British/Irish nationalist who was more interested in not living in his native country, and Michele Ifans (nee. Ebenfi) with two siblings. As her father pretty much ignored the rest of the family except to lecture them about this chosen path of his, her mother was rather caring and bore it with good will. Lindy's mother died early in her life and Lindy never stopped to learn much about the woman, preferring the larger picture. Her estranged siblings went through the mother's death with only each other. Lindy too young and their father too caught up in their research to comfort his own children. Harrison Ifans didn't stay in the world long either, but before he left he instilled in his youngest daughter that knowledge was the goal all humans should strive for and knowledge was the key to absolute power. Following her father's teachings put a larger rift between the siblings, Lindy preferring to look at the larger picture rather to dwell upon the death of a woman and mother she had never known. Harrison Ifans had been searching for endless years for a way to fully unlock the human mind, or to break the laws of physics. A madman's quest and the poor man was too sane to complete it. But Lindy took up his work when she was sent off to the orphanage having no kin from mother nor father to go to. Her siblings both were separated from her, something that sent the young girl spiraling further into the work her father spent his life upon as there were even fewer distractions. Perhaps this is what drove her to madness, perhaps it was born within her. Either way, she was never officially diagnosed due to the orphanage never having the chance. Lindy was never one to stick about when things weren't good and she left for greener pastures of better knowledge when the orphanage tried to stop her obsession with knowledge after she started to take things too far and nearly sent the building on fire and injured others 'for science'. Fleeing to the streets she wandered before finding herself in New York City, and later Gotham itself. Slowly she collected the identity for The Imp, strongly against being returned to orphanage or being thrusted into a prison system. The alias was a aid to living off the grid. Lindy was traceable upon the grid, but the elusive Imp was not. Aware of the fact it was wrong to steal from 'decent' people, she rather took her needs to those who were not. Often hunting down and thwarting the villains to relieve them of their goods for herself. The alias of the Imp protected her against retribution of those criminals she stole from. Using the funds to procure books and materials. These allowed for experiments, which in turn gave her a chance to learn through trying theories and creating devices to make getting more funds and materials for more experiments and books. As cycle of knowledge that grew, so to speak. She learned quickly how to fight, sneak, steal and most importantly how to obtain more knowledge and work the city system because of this. While she never officially completed High School, she grasped knowledge quickly and had poured over every piece since birth. Slipping into campus and attending large lectures with time brought from her experiments and thievery of thieves, she learned to blend in with the normal populace while learning even more. Her skills with computers while were not overly brilliant, were decent enough. So rather than play with high-tech in that area she kept to lower tech. Her notes all physical and often several copies ranged over a city or two. Biology, chemistry, physics she learn with a quick ease to complete the 'larger picture', even taking tests before the NY University found it had a self added pupil. She had been about 21 then. Quickly leaving town she journeyed to Gotham while inventing and testing with steam, hydronics, tesla coils, and other 'toys' of hers. She retreated to the sewers and built herself a 'den' of sorts within the system using the waters to provide electricity and other things. Soon her base was well defended and well concealed. Her only way in was in was through a series of trick and trap doors combined with some serious contorting of her body. It was then that the identity of The Imp had become complete. Her University education still being built upon but mostly covered she experimented more and in the need to test out these experiments she used the disguise of The Imp to take to the streets and pulled 'pranks' in the name of science. But unsuspecting Lindy found another hobby, pranking became something of a amusement for her and something that was not her ever questing race for knowledge. It became a relaxing and exhilarating past time. Something she rather found amusing much to her surprise. Pranks began appearing in smaller towns and larger ones as Lindy moved about the coast to collect equipment, and test out her inventions. Chocolate running fountains, entire streets of washers overflowing, Christmas lights trapping people inside buildings, banks overflowing with cash or said cash replaced entirely with fake currency, and giant slingshots built in and flinging criminals in giant balls of snow down main streets. Trivial and childish things but needed to rest the ever relentless search. But as things do, the 'pranks' escalated from greed. Contraptions started causing trouble. Steam powered turbines lifted cars from the ground with no way to lower them save a delicate tether, large swarms of little, crude robot spiders would invade schools, banks, markets, stores and other such places and carry off valuables. Museum pieces went missing and often badly made replicas were put in their stead. Often these were weapons, armor, models of old inventions, and such. The criminals provide pittance to what banks held and museums offered documents she couldn't get otherwise. But upon the disappearance of the heroes, the pranks slowed and stopped entirely. As if their creator too had disappeared. Though smaller and less dangerous pranks pop up now and again, Lindy the Imp has her sigh upon the larger picture.
Motivation for joining the League?:
Without the greatest to save the day about who would stop the villains from seeking out their own 'pest' problem? Protection, some boredom, and most of all. If someone is going to try and interfere with her experiments by taking over, Lindy the Imp wants a say about it.
What do you bring to the League?:
While it's a curse it also allows her to invent brilliant pieces of machinery and helps her pursue knowledge. The insanity and genius allows her to think outside the box. But it also makes her appear more child-like and disassociated with the world which is both from her slight insanity and her upbringing which lacked socialization. With a strong knowledge basis in biology, chemistry, physics, engineering (her true passion), and her own willingness to break the laws of nature and physics to achieve her goal. Lindy isn't about to let someone take over without having a say about it. She can contort her body into tight places and is incredibly speedy and slippery in a fight. Knowing that if she were to be pinned down with her small size and weight it would not be a good thing. She's light footed and has a weakness for taking things without asking. Simply because it's for a experiment or she just forgets, a part of her disassociation with the world and other people.
Notes
She's something of a sexual omnivore. While she won't seek out partners and rarely takes any due to her dedication to her work and research, Lindy had been known to indulge a time or two. Also, her tolerance for coffee, sodas, and achoale is something that should not be tested. It's dangerous for herself and others due to her madness. Also, Lindy designed the Imp's outfit to a very fine detail on purpose. While wearing it she is the Imp and Lindy is nothing more than a stranger. It was meant to try to keep her insanity mainly to the Impness. It didn't fully work, but the Imp will do things that Lindy never would and vice versa.
