Here's my idea for a character, I'll write up his universe a little bit later.

Sam Parker | 30 | Male

Home Universe

Simple Gifts (1950s rural sitcom)

Species

Human

Appearance

Sam has blue eyes and brown hair and stands about six feet tall. His haircut is short, only slightly longer than it was during his time in the army. Except when going to church or other formal occasions, Sam always wears his sheriff’s uniform around town, because he believes that a sheriff should always be prepared. He takes care to make sure his uniform is properly maintained at all times, and it’s rare to see him without a smile on his face. Sam has a wiry build, he doesn’t exercise but he does get his fair share of physical activity from foot patrols around town.

Personality

Sam’s a well meaning fellow who always tries to see the good in everyone. He doesn’t like to rush and is fond of idle conversation. He’s very trusting of people, even strangers, but also always keeps his eye out for trouble. Sam really hates it when people break the law or act unkindly, but he knows that the iron-fisted approach isn’t always best. He’s optimistic and has a good sense of humor, but sometimes says rash things when he gets angry.

Backstory

Sam’s spent his whole life in Madisonville, with the exception of his service in WW2. In high school he was part of the football team, he didn’t stand out as a player but he got along with everyone. When WW2 started he signed up like the rest of the town’s young men, and served as a combat medic, earning a bronze star for valor at one point. After the war he returned to the town and opted not to go to college, and worked for several years, slowly cultivating a reputation as a trustworthy man and serving as Sheriff’s deputy. When the old Sheriff retired, Sam ran for election to replace him, and won easily. Now he deals with Madisonville’s problems as best he can, even when the situations get bizarre and out of hand.

Abilities/Skills

Sam knows how to use a gun, and has an understanding of aspects of police work such as investigation and the legal rights of those arrested. He also know first aid from his service during WW2.

Weapons/Tools

Sam carries his Colt Service revolver, his nightstick and his handcuff, all of which he hopes he never has to use. In his patrol car he has a lever action carbine, which would be if things got really bad. Most importantly, he carries around lollipops, because you never know when you might need to help some kid who’s having a rough day.

Weaknesses/Limits

Sam is not cunning, and prone to getting fooled by someone who has figured him out. He is also not very book smart, and physically is a completely average human.
