Ugroth was happy to see Charlotte's mood take a turn for the better at his suggestion and if there was any doubt before now he would have a go once the time came at making the 'mortar and pestle' as she called it. It was much preferred to have everyone in higher spirits if possible as there was far to go before they were secure but at least they could manage some positive thinking for the moment. He felt the best way forward was certainly heading further inland as soon as they could manage it because there was little to work with on the sandy beach. After all, food was well and good but another major concern would be drinkable water considering they were near only saltwater which was definitely not going to help them. He also listened to the warning of caution from Charlotte which he would certainly heed though he was glad she had believed in his judgement on them. "A simple trick to know if they are edible is to look at how colorful and attention getting they are compared to the plant. They work to distract the animals from the main plant by providing something tasty and noticeable, fascinating thing it is." He said sparing a little knowledge and also his interest in nature. The ogre decided to let the alchemist have a closer look at the berry bushes while he got together as many tree nuts as he could. For him it wasn't particularly hard to tell which were suitable food because the shells seemed to darken as they decayed which made it more obvious and allowed him to retrieve a fair few based on that knowledge. They had filled up somewhere near a quarter of his pelt/sack once he was done picking through them which made him realize how much more they could have gotten had they arrived last season or a bit earlier this one. He made one interesting observation about the dead or dying nuts however was that on closer inspection there were insects either eating or moving them to be eaten slowly. The little critters were a welcome sight as he now noticed some were among the fallen berries as well which helped him to get a picture of what tended to eat the plants near the shoreline at a low level. There would no doubt be something that preyed upon the insects though what it was or how it did it was unknown but a welcoming thought. Ugroth started to gather up some of the berries now having made the decision to put them on top of the nuts as not to squeeze the juice out of them and ruin his pelt. The small fruits took more patience as he did his best not to crush them in hand though there was little chance of him asking for help. There was maybe a little too much pride for him to outright ask for help unless it was serious when it came to this sort of thing. Despite the squishy fruit forcing him to be more careful he was making decent progress at getting them off of the bush though it would take him longer than he would liked. "I forget sometimes how being large can slow even simple tasks down. This one for sure but better to do it right than not at all." The ogre said before unceremoniously snapping one of the small twigs on the bush eliciting a sigh from him. "Or at least try to do it right."
