Mika Alkaev - Starting Shot
"Nnngh..." This is the way the day begins. Not with a bang, but a whimper. Mika Alkaev rolled on his side and brought the blanket up over his head, shielding himself from the light peeking in through his blinds and promptly did his best to fall back into the sweet embrace of slumber. Unfortunately an important realization quickly dawned on him, and his eyes shot open in tandem with the casting off of his blanket. Before the layer of fabric hit the ground, the blond-haired youth had crossed the room. He stared into the digital clock with bloodshot eyes framed by dark circles. 7:43. Seventeen minutes before he was supposed to be at the university for orientation. Then the display shifted to read 7:44. Mika set the clock down gently and steadily before sprinting to his closet. He stripped off his shorts and oversized shirt, quickly selected a suitable outfit for today's events, and got dressed. With liberal application of his ability this was a quickly accomplished feat, but by his reckoning he was sure that he still might not make it on time even if he travelled at top speed. Troublesome, but he could cross that bridge when it came to it. From the depths of his bedroom, Mika Alkaev emerged dressed but plainly disheveled. His eyes scanned the family room and locked on the island. On it were two saran-wrapped plates of breakfast leftovers and his lunch bag, full. He crossed the room in an instant, unwrapped and stuffed the plates into the microwave and... waited. As he waited for the ever-lengthening seconds to pass by, he occupied himself by tidying his messy mane, an increasing sense of dread continuing to grow with every pull of the brush and blink of the microwave's digital display. BEEP! BEEP! And then it was gone just as Mika withdrew his breakfast. He took a seat at the table and began loading up on calories for later use. On the table, he noticed a note:
I packed your lunch, don't forget breakfas, and try not to be late. She might be disappointed.
He paused. The taste of food lingered in his mouth for a moment before he swallowed and redoubled his efforts of consumption with but another reason to rush suddenly obtained. Once he'd finished, he packed his satchel with snacks and tomes, snatched his lunch off the table, and promptly exited the door.
Now out in the busy "roads" of Pyramid City, pathways mapped themselves in his mind. Efficiency was paramount here; ENMA University was no normal school and getting there was really, really important! "There we go," Mika grinned, breaking into a sprint and rapidly building speed into a yellow streak of wind and light. The apartment was rather inconveniently placed near one of the more districts of towns, but he could turn that to his advantage by taking some of the shortcuts he knew. For now he'd have to dodge crowds and leap, slide and twist around the various obstacles in his path. But even though the veins of the city were his domain, he'd only really be able to let loose with his ability once he'd reach the ground floor; for now, it was controlled bursts interspersed with chomping down on an energy bar. A very sudden, very bright explosion from the direction of the school disrupted his mental momentum, causing him to stumble, almost tripping if it weren't for his timely reactions. His mind went into overdrive as he raced through all the possibilities, and more importantly, waited for any others to occur. The seconds ticked past like hours until he'd determined that it was acceptable to begin moving once more. Just a false alarm? Perhaps, but it still gave him quite a fright.
And finally, Mika skidded to a stop in front of the classroom. Barging in all panicked-like was a manga staple, but hardly conductive to polite company. Briefly he considered attempting to use his ability to get in without anyone noticing, but ultimately decided against it. Once whoever had spoken had concluded. He took a deep, exaggerated breath, turned the knob and stepped into the threshold. "..." There was nobody there.
After politely asking for directions from the secretary at the office (and verifying that whatever explosion had happened wasn't an emergency), Mika marched on over to the soccer field where his class was supposed to be. At this point, a couple of students had already given their introductions; he could tell as much from the input on the peripheral of his hearing. He crossed the soccer field - soccer wasn't much his thing but eh - and did his best to blend into the crowd of students. At first glance, he was a bit more scruffy-looking than everyone else - no doubt a result of his morning run. As all sorts of students went up, Mika began the task of fixing his hair, organizing the loose strands into something more passable in a crowd of elites like this. Then he waited. And promptly decided waiting idly was too much to ask for. Once the previous student returned to the crowd, Mika thrust his hand out to signify his intent and marched up to the front. He opened his mouth to speak, and his mind immediately went blank of what to say. He scanned the crowd. The objective parameters were 'introduce yourself', but beyond that it was up to him how to. "Uhh... Heyeveryone," he began tentatively with a curt little wave, testing the waters for anyone he'd have to make a point of avoiding. "IamMi..." He frowned and then perked up; he was probably speaking a bit too fast, "My... name's... Mika and I'm a Level 4 esper," He scratched at the back of his tilted head, a sheepish smile gracing his tired-looking face. Level 4, or 'barely average', wasn't exactly much of a thing to brag about on second thought... "Yeah that's all, I'll see you guys on the other side of the entrance exams I guess..." He internally cringed as he stepped back into the crowd. Mistakes were made, but at least he'd done it. Now maybe he should've had the foresight to wait before messing up and being alone with his thoughts. Mika blew his bangs frustratedly. This was going to be a long day, he could tell.
